Does tomorrow exist today?
Does tomorrow exist today?. Think about it - it cant not really. If tomorrow is sitting
waiting for us then wouldnt it be empty till we arrived?. I mean our future not some time travel to someone elses. Is every second we live created there and then or is it all built and waiting?. P.s. yes im bored but this was the result of me puzzling staff at work  |

in a parallel universe perhaps.....or alternate reality. Or...
What if we are in fact living second-hand seconds? What if there is advanced race of humans (or whatever) looking back at us from future through time? I'm sure everyone has had a weird feelign about something, and changed ones mind about it...what if all that was you from the future giving you hints about possible bad choises? .....what if (me, everybody replying) have just lost our minds thinking about this  |
Somewhere I heard that for every variable, every choice we make, there's another universe created in which we make a different choice, and that eventually those other universes will crowd out our universe, shrinking it into non-existance.
Whether those universes contain timelines ahead of our own...don't know. But I don't think in our average everyday lives, that tomorrow already exists. That would mean that every choice we make, everything we do, is already pre-programmed, with no way of altering the programming. Kinda like the Matrix. Adrian |

what do you mean with "tomorrow would be empty"?? don't understand that.
there's only two possibilities: eigther there is no future now, and the beings with "free will" can do whatever they wanna do next and nobody knows and only the physical laws will let us foretell things about the (physical) future, everything else could be changed. that's a world where time travel is impossible because of causality. OR everything is already there. then it is already clear what will happen in the future and we can't change anything anymore. it's already defined what we will think and do next, and if we decide not to do it, then only because that was also alredy defined. then we're only part of a big system, kind of sitting in a movie. and the movie is already complete (not "empty"), it all there yet, we just haven't seen it yet. in such a world time travel could be possible, and also time loops and things like that. (like in the movie 12 monkeys) i think there is no way to ever find out wich of the cases is true, but it doesn't matter anyway, because also in the second kind described above, people would THINK that they act on free will and won't ever find out. well except if somebody can build a time machine. then we would know that we are living in the second kind of world, but otherwise, how should we find out?? anyway, even though i like theories about that, i still think that time is moving in one direction only and comes into being continuously and hasn't been existing before. there are many mathematical and physical phenomenons that work the same way, so it would be kind of "logic". |

ah, now i understand your argument! it's kind of indirect prove that it can't exist already, given that we in fact do HAVE free will.
so the question is now: do we have free will or not? |
If everything is pre-destined then it means that we have no free will, but I don't believe that things could be pre-destined, I believe that we take each day as it comes and we could all suddenly do something spontaneous that would change the world.
It's like ripples in water. If you create one small ripple it will continue to grow, and if you create several they will react with each other and change. Using the example of The Matrix, within it everything is spontaneous, people are controlled to a certain extent but as long as they stay within certain boundaries then they are OK. It is the small percent of people who think differently that want to change the world, that want to get out and be free. They are the ones that show how unpredictable we can be, and even within the matrix the oracle can apparently see the future, but can't see everything, as there is no certainty, nothing is fixed, nothing is stable. I think that the theory Adrian mentioned is good about every variable createing a new universe, like in the film Sliding Doors, which shows how one little thing can change the course of your entire life. I suppose no-one will ever know though. |
