Bbc's Big Plan

BBC is in talks with Britain's government about starting an Arabic TV news channel to rival Al-Jazeera. Featuring news, talk shows and documentaries, the channel would broadcast across the Middle East, but also be accessible to viewers in the UK and Europe. BBC's plan follows the recent launch of Al-Hurra, which is funded by the U.S. government.

Interesting...

Of course - why should anyone be exempt from advertising

The BBC doesn't do advertising  If this goes ahead, at least they will get more impartial news.

That is good idea i think.

that would be great! cause the arabs then would have an arabic, a u.s. and a british version of reality and neither of them would be true- so you can look for you favourite reality and pretend that everything runs the way you want it to  (but that's the problem with media anyway  )

The US launching an Arab station strikes me as funny. Like they're in touch with anything going on in the region... I can't see them airing stories of US devastation in Iraq or Afghanistan. It'll probably be something like our tv stations here...p.c. b.s. all the way. The internet is the last bastion of true free speech.

I'm reminded of the way Americans used to make fun of all the old socialist tv shows and movies for being just so much propaganda....
