Not up to me to post that one anywhere else, that is one of Raquel's creations, we are building the site together so we both contribute our photoshopped stuff to include :)

UKjovi 02-15-2006 03:28 PM

Thomas Anderson 02-15-2006 03:41 PM

...and I'm not sure when entirely Raquel will be back, we can still communicate by text/phone though anyway

UKjovi 04-13-2006 07:20 PM

have you meet in person yet?

Thomas Anderson 04-13-2006 07:40 PM

No :( sadly not yet

UKjovi 04-13-2006 07:42 PM

Do you think you will?

Thomas Anderson 04-13-2006 07:47 PM

It isn't easy meeting someone when you are 1,000 miles apart, but hopefully it will happen sometime, and hopefully before too long

UKjovi 04-13-2006 07:48 PM

you will have to get on an easy jet :)

Thomas Anderson 04-13-2006 07:52 PM

Well hopefully I'll be starting a 1 year placement as of this summer, so I'll actually be able to afford something proper for a holiday. I haven't ever been on holiday by myself, something I'd like to do for once, although the holiday I'd have in mind I wouldn't be alone the whole time I think :)

UKjovi 04-13-2006 07:54 PM

haha i bet you wont be :)

Thomas Anderson 04-13-2006 07:57 PM

They send us emails from Uni a lot with placement oppurtunities on, some good ones for EMI t'other week but like most of the best ones they are in London, and I don't want to be moving away for a year, which would cut a fair chunk from whatever I earn anyway.

I haven't applied for any yet, but I saw a couple that I will apply for; one is a web design type one at Liverpool university, £9k and one a Pilkingtons, something related to information systems so am not sure of that yet, but it is much closer, and £12k, so I'm going to find out about that one a little more before I apply.

UKjovi 04-13-2006 08:13 PM

that dont sound alot at the moment though

Thomas Anderson 04-13-2006 08:14 PM

For someone who has, for the past 3 years, lived on a student loan of <£3.5k it sounds like a lot lol

UKjovi 04-13-2006 08:17 PM

flippy heck is that all? no wonder your still living with your parents . thats crap money !!

Thomas Anderson 04-13-2006 08:33 PM

The student loan works out a bit more if you live away from home, but since I live so close to Liverpool it wasn't worth moving there, plus I wouldn't have got that extra anyway because of living so close now.

Hopefully this year on my placement I'll be able to get enough and save it such that I won't need a loan at all for my final year, though I'll still be £10k+ in debt when I finish my degree. Fortunately for me the new rules don't apply since I already had started my course, as anyone starting this year has to pay their fees, so if that was the case I'd end up leaving £15k+ in debt when I finish. It will put a lot of people off going and in a few years they'll see that and start giving grants again and such.

Thomas Anderson 04-17-2006 06:12 PM

Been getting back into photoshopping lately...

I know this is the worry. If my kids want to go to collages in years to come how much will it be then? its rediculas the way they havent invested in education. but having said that what have they invested in apart from war??

£3.5k sounds like a lot :P! That's over €5000 right? My student loan's like €2800... and I live away. I can't even pay my monthly rent of that, let alone my food and necessary expenses. If I still lived home, it would even be less than €1000 :o. Studying is an expensive way of life...

Thomas Anderson 04-18-2006 03:19 PM

For living at home the maximum student loan is around £3,500 and is paid in 3 installments through the year. Thos who live away from home and have to pay rent can get more, though I'm not sure how much more.

Hopefully I won't need a loan the next 2 years though as I'll be working the first and shall try to save such that I won't need a loan the final year.

As for your kids Russ I have no idea, presumably it will be another 8-15 years before they are old enough anyway so perhaps by then it will have changed and you can get a grant again or something.

UKjovi 04-18-2006 03:25 PM

yeah i hope so. thats even if they want to go? its too far away yet

Thomas Anderson 04-18-2006 04:10 PM

Well don't worry, Tony Blair won't be PM then so there'll be some changes I think lolal

UKjovi 05-01-2006 08:12 PM

Hey Neil, are you watching Matrix tonight on ITV? they are showing all 3 tomorrow and wednesday . hopefuly i'll get to see them as i still havent watched them yet.

Thomas Anderson 05-01-2006 09:16 PM

I have the Ultimate 10-DVD boxset :p

UKjovi 05-02-2006 10:39 AM

now why doesnt that surprize me ? :p I realy enjoyed it. loved the idea you could warp reality like that .Also loved the line that we are like a virus , so true!!
So what do you get in the 10 DVD set?

Thomas Anderson 05-02-2006 02:48 PM

The Ultimate Matrix Collection 10 Disc Box Set... The Ultimate Matrix Collection 10 Disc Box Set...
http://www.bluepoint.gen.tr/gif/matr...te_dvd_box.jpg

You basically get the 3 films, a bonus disc specifically for each film, The Animatrix (a series of short animations based in the Matrix universe), and then 3 bonus discs covering various aspects of making the trilogy; from the philosophical down to concept art.

Plus the packaging is really nice too :p

UKjovi 05-02-2006 02:51 PM

I just looked on Ebay for it and its going for £12 new :) , looks good though

Thomas Anderson 05-02-2006 03:19 PM

I had each seperate film before, but I sold them to one of my mates for £20, and I got the boxset for £35 so only really spent an extra £15 to get the 4 extra discs and the nice packaging, plus the first film has been digitally restored for the boxset.

UKjovi 05-02-2006 03:32 PM

was it not already done in digital then?

Thomas Anderson 05-02-2006 04:39 PM

The first film was not filmed digitally, so when they went to do the boxset they went back to the original film and did a whole new digital transfer at high quality.

UKjovi 05-02-2006 04:55 PM

Oh i thought digital had been round for years?

Thomas Anderson 05-02-2006 05:34 PM

Well it was George Lucas who first really started to use it with Star Wars Episode II, and now a lot more films are shot digitally, just that it is more expensive. It isn't the same sort of digital video as the home video cameras you can get, though some people do use those (Michael Mann uses them, films like Collateral, gives it a more grainy, gritty, real world feel)

It is very high quality, they use advanced Sony camera's, and the camer'as cost quite a lot, and also they need the hard drive space to store it. I know that regular DV footage from home camcorders is 13gb per hour of film, so if you imagine how much higher quality the professional equipment is I'd imagine they need a hell of a lot of hardrive space, probably into the terabytes (1tb = 1,024gb - most home pc's have 80gb hard drives)
