the 'Greenday story'

found this interesting.. id heard about something about greenday being pissd of but heres the 'whole' story from bj.com q&a

Question:
I heard a story where Bon Jovi and Greenday where both invited to some radio concert. Greenday wanted to close the show but being that Bon Jovi is the higher profile, the radio wouldn't let them. Greenday started to play Wanted as a mock but the crowd actually got into the song and took it serious. Greenday got ticked off. Any truth to that story? I hope so.

Answer:
Bon Jovi and Green Day were both on the Z-100 Acoustic Christmas concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Bon Jovi opted to play in the middle of the show, not be the last act. Their reasoning was they were the only band on the bill who had already played the Garden (and sold it out) - they were cool to just play in the middle of the lineup. The bands were leaning towards alternative, it was the height of the grunge/pop-punk... Bon Jovi as supposed to be history...it was circa Cross Road. So, Bon Jovi take the stage and music starts playing...but where's Jon? He surprises the crowd by singing acapella from atop the soundboard at front of house in the middle of the floor, then heads to the stage. The band had a great performance, they had the crowd in the palm of their hands... huge reponse. Green Day was the closing act... and Bon Jovi was a tough act to follow. After Green Day's set, they supposedly walked off stage, yelled 'don't ever make me follow that band again' and trashed their dressing room (lit the carpet on fire.) How much is 100% true - we weren't there but that's the story.

From some coverage I saw at the time, Bon Jovi were supposed to be the closing act, but Green Day refused to be part of the show if they couldn't close, so Bon Jovi agreed to go on before them. Green Day started their set with Wanted, making fun of Bon Jovi, but thee audience took it over and started really singing it, then Green Day didn't get the response that Bon Jovi did, so they were a bit pissy.

hahaha...

that's a cool story... I bet Greenday, seeing as though they were probably more "hip" than Jovi at the time, got a bit cocky and thought they deserved to be the headline act and most likely regarded Jovi as dated and crap (don't know for sure). Therefore I think it's pretty funny how Jovi sort of showed them whose boss and won over the crowd more.. If I were at that concert and I'd seen a kickass Jovi show, I can imagine having Greenday come on after would sort of leave me thinking "meh..I've seen enough... I'm outta here"..

I don't mean any disrespect to Greenday cause I don't think they're a bad band. They've done well recently with their new album and I'm happy for them for that!

A lot of people did leave which is another reason they were annoyed.

Can't say I blame them. It is much better to actually hear people sing, rather than yell. :P

yeah yeah yeah....

nauseating how every story about Bon Jovi by the Oompas puts them on some sort of pedestal of BJ being the one band that rocked the house and how BJ are the toughest act to follow and how BJ is really just IT and everybody else is just, well, not so great.

When in fact during the grunge/pop-punk era nobody gave a hoot about BJ and the likes (sure some leftover 80s followers couldn't let go and move on) - jesus.....

Bon Jovi are NOT that great live - they have great shows - other bands have awesome shows as well..... Bon Jovi is not the be all end all....

now I am going to go and gag for a while.....
