How important
How important do you think it is to teach the younger generation about the world wars in respect of poppy or rememberance day which ever you like to call it?how long should we remember the wars? now? or untill the last serviving war veteran has died. Or do you think we should honour their sacrifice forever?

How far back to go though? I mean there where wars hundreds of years ago, so do you think about them or just about ones that happened last century? I hear people complain when some don't know about the wars of the last century, do you know about wars in centuries gone by?
I'm not being desrespectful to anyone who fought in the 2 world wars, just I think it's rather unfair to just focus on those wars and those who died in them, and not others. |

mind you, she did think Joseph Stalin was the guitarist from The Who :? and b4 anyone slams the love of my life, shes a straight A student studying Law. Anyone ever find that some people can be very smart but suck at general knowledge? ANYway, to get back on topic, i dont ever think that the sacrifices people make for freedom etc should ever be forgotten, i know its easy to but we wouldnt be where we are today if it wernt for the actions of these people. id hate to think millions of people have died for nothing ktf andi |
I'm not saying its her fault and not for one minute would i insult her . i personnaly agree with you that we should not forget the sacrifice that these people gave to give us the life we have now

It's not about being unfair to victims in former wars, quite the contrary. |
I think all students should have to learn about wars that were fought in the past. And not just the ones that pertain to their own country. I don't think they need to know every date of every battle by heart, but a good idea of what went on in the past to get the world where it is today would be nice. It's amazing what kids are not learning in school these days.

The fact that she is a straight A student studying law pretty much shows that she is doing a great job at learning and studying the material presented to her. Unfortunately, history has not been presented to her. Not her fault. What I find outrageous is that history isn't a required class in your school system. It should go along with math, language, and science. Of course this coming from someone who had history as mandatory class from elementary to high school and even at the university I had to take one history class (I could choose the timeframe or country I wanted to learn the history of, but it had to be a history class). I could never imagine someone going through school without history classes. Makes me appreciate my schooling even more :P Quote:
yes - all the way back ---- like I said, history class should be mandatory like math or language... |
