Compassion for Iraqi's?
my sister was telling me about some clips that had been on the news from Fallujah. Soldiers shooting insurgents that were lying wounded in the head and leaving others there just waiting to die.
She was pretty moritified but to be totally honest, I was like, and so? Regardless of what you think of the war THEY ARE the enemy and i'd rather have our boys shooting them when they're wounded than the other way round. Then I got to reading a news article apparently from an iraqi photographer who says soldiers were killing civvies in the street and snipers were picking off people trying to swim across the river to get out of the place. He was going on about finding bodies in the street and whatnot and I don't know if it's because I smell a hefty dose of bullshit on account of him conveieniently forgetting to take his camera with the incriminating photos and the fact you can't give a dead man a kick and say hey buddy are you a civvy or an insurgent but I felt very little sympathy at all. i mean if it's true, which i really doubt, then it's a really shitty situation for them to be in and it's a bit harsh picking off civvies trying to flee but apart from that, i'm not shocked, moritified, bothered or even moved really. I'm not saying this to get a rise out of people but I'm genuinely apathetic about the whole situation and was just wondering if anyone else is the same or I'm just really an incompassionate ****er when it comes to people I can't relate to. |
I'm not shocked. Saddened, yes, shocked, no. In times of violence, things burn and people die. That's the point and it's to be expected. To think that you can wage "war" and not kill people, many of them innocent is delusional. For all our bragging about pinpoint accuracy, I have no doubt there are more dead civvies than insurgents.
I have sympathy for all the innocent people who have died there, and for the insurgents fighting to free their country. Adrian |
I dont think that anyone can truely say what they would do untill they have been placed into that situation

Either way - there are going to be a large number of the 150,000 ppl that have fleed / have their homes bombed etc.... that will now be far more sympathetic to the insurgency. Not really a successful mission.

The footage on the news today didn't really shock me at all...I'm sure much worse acts have been committed by soldiers on both sides in this war and every war that has ever been. The fact that the media have decided to leak these pictures and make this young soldier look like an exception to the rule is baffling to me. I recently watched the Michael Moore film 'Fahrenheit 9-11' which has some rather shocking footage of civilian casualties and warped 19 year old American kids who have been sent over to Iraq with nothing but killing on their minds...war is ****ed up, killing the enemy is part and parcel of it all.
