Then and Now

I was listerning to the Moscow peace concert from 1989 last night (thanks Kev) and i was wondering if you thought that BJ have improved their performances from then to now? Take Hyde Park for instance , that was an amazing show and so much better than Wembly in 1993 .

Hyde Park wasn't better then most shows from the Keep The Faith or I'll Sleep When I'm Dead tours and it also wasn't one the best shows from the Bounce tour. Jon's voice was flat and the band looked tired and worn out. Wembley 1993 had Dry County in it sung with a good voice.

Performance wise their shows were best in the eighties with a band that always looked on fire and a big fun rock & roll show. During the Cross Road and These Days periods they became a bit softer but they still convinced people by their performance but nowadays it's no longer like that. Jon weirs sunglasses on stage because he rather hides the wrinkels...Their shows were very great untill the Crush tour came, then they just became pretty good or just good.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

you mean you prefer richie and dave singing jon's parts cause his voice is totally down as it often happened in the 80ies?
nothing against those two (richie even got a better voice imho) but if jon is the leadsinger then i prefer him singing...
nothing against you, buddy- they were definately more on fire but remember- in the eighties they were still young

I pretty much agree, except that they still convince a lot of non BJ fans.

These assumptions are still beyond me.

True, but that was when the band was going towards the end of the New Jersey tour. During the peak of that tour it was Jon all the way. Also, from all the songs they performed back then none of them sounded flat.

It's not an assumption. It's Jon who has admitted this in a few interviews. He wears them during interviews for the same reasons. It's told by him on the extra part on the Crush DVD.

He wasn't wearing sunglasses when I saw the band in Chicago. And I thought that show was awesome! But still, I have nothing to compare it to. However, I think they probably gave the best shows in the 80s. I mean, Jon was flying over the audience by a cable. How can you top that?

Um, he wears sunglasses at the beginning of shows to shield his eyes from the photographers, b/c the first few songs are the only time they can take pictures. That's a well known fact.

That's what I thought, too.

I can't really comment on the Then and Now topic, but all I can say is that Bon Jovi ****in' rock live now, so if they were better in the past then they must have been REALLY awesome!!!

I have the Wembley 1995 DVD, the Crush tour fra Zürich and the 6 songs from Hyde Park theres on the TLFR bonus dvd. Deffinately I like the wembley show most, I really i the greatest dvd I have, they just play with a lot more energy than many other bands. I also heard Richie Saying that the greatest BJ consert was on Wembley (just don't know wich year he ment?)
But when I saw the Crush tour, the only time I have been to a BJ consert, they rocked the stadium ****ing much, and really get the fans screaming.

Maby they were young in the 80's, but Im sure that Richies guitar work is better now than then. Maybe Jons voice is the only thing that is worser, but that's just the way is goes when making so many live shows.
