Flash Animation
 

Anybody know about Flash? It's a computer program that lets you animate stuff. I have the program (got it as a graduation present), but it came with no manual. I'm going to take a class in how to use it this January. Anybody else have this program?

Also, some really great web cartoons have been made using Flash. I think that www.legendaryfrog.com has some of the best web cartoons on the Net. I highly reccomend "The Matrix Has You" and "The Matrix Still Has You". Those are som hilarious parodies. :lol:

It does a lot more than just animate stuff.

Sounds like a pirated version to me.

It wasn't pirated. My dad went on this site that gives programs at discounts to students. The site was reccomended to him by a teacher.

Well, it's got a full programming language inside it, you can do just about anything. Anything from games to web sites to presentations and multimedia for touch screens etc. If you're going to use it just for animation you're wasting about 90% of what it's capable of.

Read the tutorials and search for more. Once you get the basics, start learning ActionScript. A good place to start is www.actionscript.org. If you don't know AS you're missing out on a lot Flash has to offer.

I started using it at Uni this semester, although haven't really used any of the coding yet or anything, only the basic animations and for making small website type pages for coursework.

The script is Java I think? (I'm learning that after Xmas in my programming module) If so I should be able to use it much better by summertime.

Where is this site with the student discounts, as I know the full program retails at about £400 and quite obviously is often unaffordable to students and as such gets pirated a lot.

Well that's why I asked as I didn't know. I've only used a few of the commands and with it using the ; and () it looks a little like Java.

Every programming language used these days uses semi-colons ( ; ) and brackets ().
