Morals and Compassion
 

You know, I am not really sure if this post is supposed to go under a different thread but I don't really care. They can always move it or whatever.

I happened to be very moved by the early and tragic death of Dimebag Darrell. The guy has been the most influential and skilled guitar player since Randy Rhodes, undoubtedly untouched with not many comparable. I had modeled my guitar playing after him and I consider him my teacher.
Now, being that I like information and get to be nosy sometimes, I wanted to see what other bands had to say about his passing. So I went on about a dozen websites, metal bands, rock bands and even some pop ones and I WAS VERY MOVED TO SEE that most had some sort of tribute to Dime on their front page. Like him or not, you can not deny his accomplishments, his contributions to the world of rock and roll and his influence on guitar players in every little corner of the planet. Members of Motorhead, KISS, Limp Bizkit, Green Day, GOO GOO DOLLS (?), Nirvana, Velvet Revolver, Korn, MAROON 5 and many other different bands paid tributes either in interviews or on their sites so it all makes me wonder…

Not a word from the Jovi camp??

After all the good things Dime and Pantera said about Bon Jovi on VH-1 and in interviews over the years? You can call your webmaster and post something on the site? Just because Dime was in a different music category, a metalhead, shouldn’t you still pay tribute to him?? He was a good man who was shot for no reason while he was WORKING!

It’s just morals…. That’s all…

I am sure that when Jon or any of the BJ band members die or get shot there will be a lot of tributes from a variety of different bands.

I wouldn't be suprised if response from Jovi-camp would be "Dime-who?"

Sure it's sad when someone dies but unless you actually knew that person personally I don't understand how you could be upset. Maybe Bon Jovi had never heard of this guy, I haven't.

If you love someones music and then they die you can still enjoy their music and respect them but it is best I think not to put it in the public eye. If a friend or relative of mine died I wouldn't want them to be in the press and people over the world who had never met them acting upset about it.

You know... I really can't believe that... Bon Jovi has heard of Dimebag without a doubt. But, I do believe that Bon Jovi have to be upset at the least, conisdering they have probably met him or talked to him. Not every artist are going to pay tribute. Hell, I miss Darrell a shitload... He's done a lot for the world of Metal and has been an icon to every member of Metallica. Check out Metallica.com... That's a tribute that makes you want to cry. I can probably see why Bon Jovi didn't do the same simply because they might not want to hang their heads upon it. For them, life goes on... For the world of metal... the earth shook and came to a halt.

This is unbelievable. To sit here and talk about Darrell in the past tense seems so wrong, so unfair, so unjust, I don't even know what to say. My heart goes out to Vinnie, to their families, to the other band members, and to the families and friends of the other people that were killed or injured, in this ****ing senseless act of selfishness and stupidity.
In 1985 I was fortunate enough to meet both Darrell and his brother in Dallas on tour. The first thing me and my friend did as soon as that tour was over, was to head straight back to Dallas and hang out with Darrell and Vinnie for a long time, cuz they were the coolest muther ****ers that we had met after criss-crossing the states for three months. That was the beginning of a friendship that was anchored in love, respect, fun, outrageousness, music, booze, sweat, late nights, early mornings, hangovers, headaches, pounding eardrums, sore bodies... the list goes on.

There's a tendency in these ****ed up moments to use the word "I" a lot and focus on one's own feelings of pity and shock... so instead let it just be known that thru these eyes Darrell was incredibly warm, open, fun, nutty, forthcoming, talented, embracing, unpretentious, accommodating and he always had a very attractive innocence about him that obviously made him never threatening and always welcoming.

Darrell and his brother were the cornerstone of musical adventures that were always groundbreaking, pushing boundaries, challenging to themselves and to their fans, respected by their peers and always true musicians' musicians, and today the rock world is worse off because of this untimely and senseless waste.

Much love and respect and thanks for letting me be a small part of your life and I know you are already having fun and throwing it down with Bon Scott, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Jimi, Cliff B., and the rest of the musicians and troublemakers that you are hanging with so prematurely.

Maybe Dimebag and Jon have met on occasion but personally, I don't see them as being friends or close. I understand where Jon/Bon Jovi are coming from in this regards because it would be as if they are jumping on the bandwagon. All of a sudden this event occurs and Jon is making a statement on Dimebag as if they were good friends? Pantera/Damageplan's music and Bon Jovi's music were so completely different. All the bands that you have mentioned were friends with Dimebag and met him on more than one occasion. If Jon were to talk, honestly people might think, when the hell did Jon meet Dimebag? now he thinks he can talk?

If Jon were to send a message I think he would do it privately and to Vinnie and the family on the loss of their brother/son.

I think Stephanie has a point. If Bon Jovi said something, people would be outraged that they were jumping on the bandwagon for publicity. If they don't say something, people are mad that they're not being considerate.

Were Pantera even around in 85/86? I can't imagine a heavy metal band performing a slushy ballad like Never Say Goodbye!
Im' sure Jon and the band have crossed the paths of hundreds of bands/musicians in their time, but unless you've got a real friendship with them, they probably don't think it's their place to pass comment. Leave that to the poeple who really new him! :roll:

yup you've got to realise that guys like ozzy, metallica and pantera all kinda run in the same circles whereas Bon jovi don't.

i doubt the stones have released a comment on it but does that make them unsympathetic?
