Scanner software?

Does anyone know if there's any free software that I can use with a scanner so that it transforms scanned texts into text docs?

I don't know if I'm explaining it properly - and I'm sure these programmes must have some name - but I hope someone understands me :P

I can't recommend any since I don't use them, but what you are searching for is called OCR. Search for it or try here.

Captain is right, it's called OCR. And most scanners these days come with a program for that. Depends on the brand, but HP has a function called "scan a document" which does just that.

I've never used it myself, and heard recently from a few people that it was a bit crap. Does it generally produce good results?

Depends on the document and the settings. I've gotten fairly good results and really crappy on other documents. But the better (=more expensive) software you use, the better results you will get.

I rarely use my scanner now, it's the same one that came with my first pc about 5 years ago, not sure what resolution it is. I only use it for photos really, could probably do with a new one though.

I'll see if I can get some software and give that a try, like I said never done it before but sometimes there are things I could use it for to save re-typing work (which is very boring and time consuming)

Thanks *ºÇåptäîn¤Çrä§hº*! I'm downloading one of those trial versions right now. Let's see how it turns out :D

Ice - the scanner I have was my cousin's and it's a few years old now and all he gave me is the "machine" - I even had to download the software!

Let's hope it all works now :)

Thanks everyone for your input! :D
