Are you effected by BJ religious song content ?

Hello,

We have a lot of diverse religious and non religious beliefs on this board amongst our JT Bon Jovi fan community.

I would really like all opinions on the following....

There are lots of BJ songs that have either the word God, Lord (I dont think they are referring to Lord Lucan!) or Jesus.

One of the most famous is well known as a BJ fan anthem Keep the Faith

Faith: you know you're gonna live thru the rain.
Lord you got to keep the faith
Faith: don't let your love turn to hate
Right now we got to
Keep the faith
Keep the faith
Keep the faith
Lord we got to keep the faith

In a separate post below I shall list all of the other song titles.

Does Bon Jovi's religious expression effect you ?

bon jovi refuse to speak of their religious beliefs. if you choose to take their songs as preaching then that's upto you. i choose not to.

Jon is a catholic and outwardly admits to this, I think their references to religion as to a lot of other experiences come out in their music, otherwise I wonder why religious words are used so much.

I'm not particularly religious in any way, but I have no problem with BJ talking/singing about God/The Lord or Jesus

As long as people don't try to push their own religion on me, then I don't really care what religion they belong to...

Thomas Anderson 12-27-2004 04:24 PM

Anyone can talk about what they want regarding religion, be it in song or whatever else, as long as it does not add to the already brainwashed culture we live in.

Personally I see the song Keep The Faith more as keeping the faith in music and life, not in any religious way. Also I see Hey God as more of a poke as society and politics than any religious thing.

Everyone has different interpretations.

RichieW2001 12-27-2004 04:25 PM

the words 'god', 'lord' and 'jesus' are very expressive without having a religious meaning behind them. i 'blaspheme' quite frequently using those words if it adds substance to a particular phrase.

the songs you pulled up are mostly cover songs; and out of the ones that are bon jovi songs the majority contain very infrequent references and are mostly used (i would suggest) to add feeling to a particular line.

thats very interesting Mr Anderson, I thought that most people percieve KTF as keeping the faith of music, BJ , life, they seem to not notice the word Lord in there !

Hey God depending in does seem to be quite dark at times, as if he is questioning if God is hearing the world. I think depending on what mood someone is on can also have an efect to how we percieve a song.

the words god ,lord and Jesus are expressive without religious meaning :? I dont think we would hear an athiest using the word God!

The first list of songs relating to the word God are not mainly covers.
