LOS ANGELES — Bon Jovi want to give love a good name. The New Jersey rockers recently finished recording their ninth studio record, and singer Jon Bon Jovi calls it their most upbeat album ever.

"After these trying times in the States this last year, we're trying to back to some optimism, people accepting each other," Bon Jovi said.

Telling of their optimism is the title of the first single, "Have a Nice Day," which the band performed at the American Music Awards last month.

John Shanks, who has worked with Lindsay Lohan, Ashlee Simpson, Hilary Duff and Kelly Clarkson in recent months, produced the album.

"It's a big rock record that I think is gonna surprise a lot of people," Bon Jovi said. "It's a very contemporary sound, a real rockin' record."

A title and release date have yet to be set, but fans should expect a spring release. "I'm really going to take my time with [the title], 'cause the songs are important enough to think of something," Bon Jovi said.

In the meantime, the band just released the box set 100 Million Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong. "It's 38 songs no one's ever heard and 12 rarities that you have to be a diehard fan to know, so it's 50 songs," Bon Jovi boasted.

Compiling the material gave the band a chance to reflect on it career. "It's incredible," Bon Jovi said. "Who would've thought? Twenty years, 100 million albums, not in my wildest dreams."

"contemporary sound' is far from good :?

It sounds good to me. I just want Bon Jovi to rock again and with any luck they will with this album.

I'm not worried. I've had faith in these guys for 19 years now and they've only let me down once. :)

Are we going to get Britney singing "I Love Rock'n'Roll"? Doesn't sound too promising. These "surprises" have never been good.

They sure picked some of the low spots on John Shanks' resume. He's also worked with SR-71, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, and Keith Urban who all rank in my favorite acts. Given what he's done with those artists, I'm looking forward to this CD even moreso than usual.

How thankful are we that Patrick Leonard isn't back as producer? :splat:

I dont know why, but for some reason I believe jon this time, when he says about a big rock album. He has said this in the past and been completely wrong, but I actually think it will be this time. At least, I hope I am right 8)

I don't believe him. He doesn't even understand what rock is about since he considered Everyday a big heavy rock song.

I'm reserving judgement until the album is out. But what I'm reading here is not sounding too encouraging...it's sounding like an album full of It's My Life's and Everyday's. I liked it better when Have A Nice Day came off as sarcasm...this article says the title is to be taken literally.

It's also possible the article is a bunch of warped information...the song itself based on the known lyrics do not fall in line with the interpretation this article gives. Then we have the conflicting statements made in previous interviews about the nature of the album and it's tone. So...yeah...best to wait till we hear it and take it all with a grain of salt until then.
