RS + JBJ interview in Dutch magazine Gitarist

Aloha !

A short summary:

- Richie likes the demo from Sat. Night more than the original because of it being darker than the original.

- Jon thinks he's a better singer nowadays, just like Bono and Steven Tyler he controls his voice much better.

- Richie doesn't want to tell any details about the new album but it's not like on Bounce on which they overdubbed the rhythm guitar part about 3 times. This time he has experimented with pedals for the sound of his guitar. He had a clean sound and then used pedals for the effects.

- Richie is proud of the boxset since it contains so many songs from different era's and it makes clear that he and Jon have grown as songwriters.

- The record company wanted a 2 disc set with 24 songs as a boxset, and Jon refused to do because it would be just a double album. The record company asked what he wanted and he told them he wanted 50 songs and they said ok.

- The idea of something special for their 20th anniversary came up about 4 years ago when they realised it was something they would reach, unlike other bands from their era. If there would not have been a boxset they would've done something else to celebrate.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Great interview. Thanks

I specially liked the idea that Jon, for the 1st time I think, imposed his will on the record company. Remember that New Jersey, Crossroad and the live album were all meant to be double albums, but the record company always said no. I think it would have been very disapointing if the box set had only 2 cds, specially because they were talking about it for 4 years now.
I'm glad their kept their word:)

I agree on this part, but its just a part of Jon's arrogance.

I'm glad that new jersey wasn't a double disc album. Otherwise every album thereafter should also have been a double album...
The oher albums should have been there I think (also as double albums).

Well, you gotta look at it from his point of view ... if by 'better'. he means 'doesn't need steroids injected into his throat to keep him alive', then yeah, tis better
