do you have a FAVORITE SEASON to buy Bon jovi album ?
Becky just made a very interesting remark on another thread and i thought I might ask .... OK this should be in Non jovi to be more INTERESTING because I should ask to everyone as a Cd buyer not as a BON JOVI fan .. the only reason I post this here is to have more ppl answering ( my bad for cheating )
Becky was talking about usual cd release for the Jovi cds .. and said that fall is the best season for cd sales ... Is that true for you as a cd buyer ? Do you buy more cd depending of the season ? I NEVER thought about that never bought cd depending of the season but how about you ? do you think it's important for a band to release cd at the right moment or nor ? I am very naive I think that I don't care about all this and I thiught it wasn't important ... do you think it is ? do you think it's the same for all the countries ? is there place where the relase date will be more important than others ? |
For what I want for MYSELF, it matters not when they release it or who else releases CDs at the same time. But I do buy more CDs during the Christmas season than any other time of year because that's what a lot of people like for gifts. With friends and family gifts, I buy almost as many CDs at Christmas as I do the rest of the year total.
I don't think it matters too much to people like us who are hanging out on the Bon Jovi boards. It's those casual buyers that you catch in the 4th quarter. Becky |
Aloha !
I've voted for the 3rd option. U2 and Bon Jovi would never release a CD on the same day/week/month because obviously Bon Jovi would lose this "battle" Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |

for me it really doesn't matter when they release it I will still buy it, but for other people it does, the 3rd for me as well. |
Third option for me too. I know this last fall there were a lot of CD's all coming out in September/October that I wanted to buy. It took me a while to get them all since there were so many I wanted. Now, I've gone several months without anything to buy. For me, it defitely depends on what else is coming out...although Bon Jovi would always be my top priority.

so maybe for an artist .. more than the season of the year they might think as essential of the others artists having a cd out at the same time... but if all the artist want to be out for xmas seasons they are all out at the same period :?
tough to do the right marketing .... do you think the delayed / postponed bon jovi next cd is about not being done yet or could it be more a marketing delay ? (ok who cares ... I know I know ... ) |
Whether it is for favorite musicians or favorite authors I will buy a new album or book instantly. By the time it's released I've usually been waiting far too long, in my opinion. The season or time of year does not matter to me - I'll get it as soon as I can.

Going with option 3. I think lotsa people buy only couple of cds every now and the, and competition must have an effect.
Personally, I don't pay attention to season, I usually but the ones I really want. What comes to jovi, season called "sale" seems the best choise. It didn't take long for tlfr for example to sink into discount basket. |
I don't think it makes any difference. If a CD has good singles, good reviews and the right promotion then people will buy it no matter what season, no matter who else has a CD out.

for me when I want a cd of an artist that i love I buy the cd whatver the season the competition with other ppl or even I admit the price of it .. I JUST BUY IT... but since bounce basically I heard my internet jovi friends talk about things i would have never think about ... like the period of the year .. ppl mentiuonning oh that's not good news because summer is not a good period for a cd .. I was like :?:  what ?! .... or oh that's great news the cd will sell good because ppl will buy it for xmas I thought again :?:  what ?! .... or friends totally excited before the box set was out and checking the newsppaper to know where to buy the cd at the best price and I thought again :?:  what ?! ..... I must have lived either under a rock or in a bubble to never have been bothered by anything like that ... so I made this thread ... wanting to know what kind of consummer you are or maybe in what way you consider music ...for me music is part of the artistic culture so basically even if we have to buy for it it's not a product ( my idealistic vision is that there is no search of cheapest stuff no competition or no comparison no sales nothing like that because for me it's not a buying washing powder ).. so like you said Rob or Kathleen nothing really count neither about the season nor the competition or anything but that's just me or few ppl and I think it's interesting to know other ppl way of thinking ... All the replies have extremely valid points .. and for example the competition point does seems to count a lot for Jovi ... ..maybe not from a fan point of view (like I won't buy jovi first if U2 is out at the same time ) but more from the Jovi side ... they are maybe avoiding the competition with other artists more than targetting the greeting season to sell better ... |
