Surely that's an EP rather than a single? Must run for ages. Brilliant tracklisting.

Yeah, that's the combination of both of the DC Single-CDs.
I think the 2-CD box of this must be really rare by now.

Saw it on Ebay a few times, but never managed to get one.

Did you get all this stuff from Ebay, too?

How is it? Let's use other musicals as a comparison, rather than Bon Jovi!

Personally, I love the music in Memphis, but I always loved musicals. No, it isn't "real" rock & roll. It's rock & roll written for musical theater. (Some critics seem to have an issue with that. But then, some critics seem to have an issue with everything.) The numbers are catchy and stick in your head. They build to a big, old-fashioned finale number. Jovi fans have heard David sing the title track a number of times, and I wondered if I'd automatically dislike anyone else's version. Not so. Chad Kimball who plays Huey does a tremendous job with the song. Montego Glover who plays Felicia has a magnificent voice and has some real chances to shine. As far as I'm concerned, her performance of the song Colored Woman was worth the price of admission the night I saw the show.

If you're interested in the music, you can hear clips of a few of the songs on the Memphis website -
http://www.memphisthemusical.com/music.html

The show also has a YouTube channel -
http://www.youtube.com/user/MemphisTheMusical

I think this video which is an interview with Joe DePietro (book & lyrics) and David (music & lyrics) sitting at a piano and talking (and in David's case, singing) about the creative process is fascinating -
http://www.broadway.com/videos/show/...-joe-dipietro/

Sorry to go on and on, but I really enjoyed this show. Yes, I think the story could be stronger. It's all wrapped up in a nice, neat package a little to easily . . . but then, this IS musical theater! The music, the dancing, the costumes and set are fabulous, and we had a great time. When I saw the show, it was still in previews, and Kathleen tells me it was even better when they saw it again in December.

where did you order it from? im after it myself

C'monFeet 02-02-2010 03:21 AM

Found all the old Zavvi stock being sold off cheap in a shop called "Head" today. Had a binge/retail-therapy moment.

The Ipanemas - Call of the Gods
Footloose - OST
Amadou & Mariam - Welcome to Mali
Carla Bruni - Comme St de rien n'etait
Damien Dempsey - The Rocky Road
Cold War Kids - Robbers and Cowards
St Elmo's Fire - OST
Peaches - Father****er
The Smiths - The Queen is Dead

AND two seasons of the Wire, AND two seasons of BSG, AND V for Vendetta and a Damien Dempsey live DVD - all for £53.

And the other day got Muse's HAARP and Madness' the Liberty of Norton Folgate. And paid for a download of a Phish show. And torrented the Midlake album and Animal Collective. And a little Zevon (I will so inevitably end up buying his whole catalogue, so this doesn't feel like stealing).

This will take care of the "what are you listening to?" thread for a few days.

Finally getting around to replacing my old burned CD collection. Warning is still one of my favorite albums. Up there with American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown IMO.

About Green Day, in addition to American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, which I really like, I have Nimrod and Dookie but I never really listened to them.

Today I got Contraband from Velvet Revolver.
