60s fancy dress ideas?

so my gaffer has decided next saturday is going to be a 60s style fancy dress night in the pub and I happen to be one of the plebs roped into working it meaning I need to dress up.

the 60s is a really shitty idea if you ask me, everyones going to look the same but I'm wanting to go for somethign a bit different. maybe elvis on the way down  or a vietnam soldier (that was the back end of the 60s wasn't it?)

anyways got any cool ideas that don't involve the words flares, flowers or braids?

Actually, that's a good idea - there is such a variety of styles to choose from on that cover. There were not too many Vietnam soldiers until after 1968 when Nixon became President and escalated the war. The thing about the sixties was that there really wan't a norm. The era has a reputation of tie dye and love beads, but it was really "anything goes". Anything that was different, colourful and anti-establishment was perfectly acceptable.
Just a heads up - polyester leisure suits came in the seventies - don't go there

When they decided 70s wasn't happening ziggy stardust went out the window and sgt peppers went in but it fails on 2 accounts of A: I don't want to die from dehydration in a big **** off marching band suit and B: I'm not wasting my hard earned cash putting too much effort into it ie hiring something.

I'm leaving it to my mum. it'll give her something to keep occupied with for the next week apart from whinging at me for being such a bum.

One "playboy" style of the time was to have shirts. But not just ordinary shirts. Where the pockets would be, they had see-through material so people could see their nipples.

Pretty classy.
