Things you know you don't need to know?

Not useless trivia (of which can come in handy winning slabs of beer in pub quizes0 but actual stuff you can do or know how to do but never need to?

I've been driving nearly 2 years and I've reverse parallel parked maybe 3 times if I'm lucky. I've never properly reversed round a corner either. what's the point? you can waste 5 minutes imagining an examiner is sitting next to you watching your every move or you can go: rear view mirror, no kids int he way, reverse....

Someone showed me how he used to tie his boots in the army so if he got hit with a petrol bomb and set on fire he could get the laces undone in one quick motion. The chances of me being hit with a petrol bomb even in a Glasgow housing scheme are very slim.

What do you know that you don't need to know? let's see if we can find the most useless thing.

Basically everything that you post about     :P

Just about all the math and algebra I know beyond addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percents, and fractions. Anybody else ever get asked to factor a quadradic equation in the course of their lives?

Jim:How do you tie your boots like that?

Jim Bon Jovi's useless trivia # 3746:

It's hard to explain if you're not there. you doi them in such a way that one part of the lace is going right up the outside "side" ie the loops or whatever you wrap your laces around whereas the rest fo the lace does the usual criss crossing. because it's done like this, a quick tug and the full thing comes loose and you can get them off.

this shoddilly done diagram might kinda give you the idea

I totally agree with you Adrian. I hate calculus with a passion, but the teacher said it was useful. Guess what? Nobody has asked me how to integrate an equation since the final exam.

Well - once you own a house you will need more. I use algebra and trigonometry every time I work on the house. If you ever learn to cook you will use algebra to figure put how to expand your receipes using non whole numbers. You probably won't factor a quadratic equation though.

In terms of useless knowledge, calculators have made my expert use of sliderules and log tables obsolete. I also know how to fix skips in vinyl records - another obsolete skill. I'm sure I can think of more with some time.

I just put a coin on top of the of the stylus to weight it down, or I presume you mean remove the scratch from the actual record?

That just makes it worse.
