Songs permanently ruined...

Which songs have been permanently ruined (in a live sense) by Jon's inability to hit the high notes, and his tinny (ie lack of base) voice? Which songs are painful to hear live?

I'll start:

Saturday Night, In These Arms, Always, Blaze of Glory.

Which songs are still acceptable?

Blood on Blood, Keep The Faith

Aloha !

Er, Saturday Night was great live during the Bounce tour. Yes, Jon doesn't have the power to do the high notes but there never was a live version that had as powerful vocals as the studio versions.

I don't know about Always, I thought Jon nailed the song when they played it live the last few times during the Bounce tour.

Bed Of Roses has been permantently ruined in my opinion, it's played way to slow. The same for Livin' On A Prayer. I don't get a thrill anymore when hearing a live version, it's become one of those songs that makes you think "how would Jon sing the "Liiving on a prahayer.." before the guitar solo kicks in. The only time I heard him sing it in an acceptable way was in Amsterdam 03.

And In These Arms should be taken of the setlist forever, unless they play the acoustic version in an acoustic set. I mean, singing a song 1,5 key lower and still not doing the screams in it while you should be perfectly capable of doing it makes you a bad singer. And because it's not playing in the old key, it lacks all the power the studio version has.

I guess i haven't seen enough concert recently to say something.

I know what you mean by ruined but i accept the fact that his voice is no longer the same so no problem with this for me. If i want to hear the songs i have them on cd's

But it's true that i'd like to hear Always like it used to be :(

I've only heard two performances of Radio Saved My Life, but they've certainly managed to butcher that song.

Ah yes, that one is certainly ruined. What makes them think it was a good move to sing the chorus one octave lower? :?

def agree with In these arms. id add I believe to that list too (whenever they actually play it) Instead of the powerful '' Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii BELIEVEEE'' we get a pathetic effot were Jon doesnt hold the note anymore.

songs that Jon can still get away with;

Bad Medecine *groan*
Bad Name
its My Life
KTF
Wanted
BTBMB

Basiclly the main songs of their setlist i think, on a good night, Jon can do them justice. Thats probably the only reason why we still get the same old most nights, hes running outta things he can sing well.

I so agree with that !!!!!! It's just almost unbelievable :( the song is totally ruined live ... and it's for sure the only one song if I had to choose JUST ONE I don't want to hear live at all and I prefer 100% the studio version (demo even !!) of it ....

I MISS the days where Jon could sing Always but I think there are still times he can sing it live ... it's not ruyined at EACH live tentative ....

I also agree with In These Arms but I love this song live so much that I try to forget about what it was and what it is now ....

like Jess said .... I know that Jon's voice isn't as fantastitc as it used to be ...but I can totally deal with it .... this guy still knows how to sing damn good well compare to the majority of bands and singers performing live ...

what is *MISSING* more than Jon's great voice (the perfect period was the 90's .. time where he sang so damn well !! technically better than the 80's voice and emotionaly as great as the 80's) it's the passion , the thrill and the fun to be on stage more than the lack of high notes on his voice ... I havent heard I Believe live. I love that song and I dont think I want to hear it live. I can just imagine what jon's voice will do to that :?

I Believe has always been a tough song to sing for Jon, even on the Faith tour there were terrible versions where Jon could hold the song. I heard it for the first time in Amsterdam '03 and it was great, it was almost, or just as good as the '95 versions.
