I've definately had a broken heart. I had fallen in love with this guy when I was 16. He was such a sweet person. The only problem was that he'd only date b*tches. He didn't feel the same way as I did about him. I was crushed. I don't even know if he knew that I loved him. So, that's my broken heart story.

I had my teenage angst "broken hearts," but I've only had one really true broken heart over a man. There are other things that can give you a broken heart too.

I agree with becky on this one, my broken hearts are in fact all (almost) caused by people that have been my friends, family and so.

Yes, once by a guy and a few times from long time friends.

Yes, once by a guy and once by a friend. The good thing is though that it heals and you are that much stronger afterwards.

That is very true.

I second this. At that moment I felt really horrible and didn't want anyone near me but eventually started to see things differently and this is the advice I usually give when I am asked.

Yes. There are, as has been stated, different ways of having your heart broken. For example, I still miss my deceased pet ferret every day. Sometimes I expect to hear her rustling around in the cage that's not by the computer anymore. One of the best friends I've ever had.

And I've had my heart broken, or at least hurt, by a girl I knew. Know. At the time, I wasn't...*trails off* I've done a heck of a lot of growing up in the last 2-4 years, and it's unfortunate that she hasn't been able to see that, that we don't have a chance now. She's got a steady boyfriend now, seems happy, and we keep in infrequent contact, so I guess I should be happy that she's happy and we've been able to talk occasionally. Unfortunately, I get to see altogether too much of him, or him and her together, which is...annoying in a strange way. Sometimes memories can really suck.
