A couple of BJ questions..help me out =)
1. Why did they call the New Jersey album, New Jersey??
I read somewhere that Jon didnt like that at all.. 2. Why did they fire Doc McGhee?? 3. And when is the new album coming out?? well, enjoy the rest of the week dudes..see ya! |
i might be wrong, but i try my best:
1- the album NEW JERSEY was dedicated to their hometown, so they name it NJ. 2-They fired McGhee because of some drug problems, guess he was dealing with drugs. 3-Not anytime soon. |

Anyway the band decided to start managing themselves after they nearly burned out during the New Jersey tour. I remember reading a while back this old interview from '88 (before NJ tour had started), where the interviewer asked Jon how they felt going on tour so soon again. Jon replied they'd be taking it easier this tour, doing only 150 shows instead of the 200+ they did on the Slippery tour. Didn't they do like 260 shows that tour? :? Quote:

2. In Behind The Music Jon says that Doc wasn´t too excited of Jon making soundtracks for movie, being interest on acting or something like that.

Best as i can remember New Jersey was named as a tribute to their home state showing they were proud to be from Jersey.
Doc getting fired was the culmination of several things, but mostly because Jon had ideas about diversifying and doc didn't want him to, the pot thing happened in like 88 and had been settled btwn them long before. I think alot of it was that Jon felt that Doc no longer had the bands or his best interests at heart, that Doc had fallen into the "money" trap and they just weren't connecting anymore. Plus Jon is an admitted control freak and he felt he had lost control of what the band was doing and where they wanted to go. The new record isn't coming until fall, September I believe. |
The record company wanted a picture of Jon's face for the album cover and he didn't even want to turn and face the camera at all. He was wearing a jacket with a patch that said Bon Jovi New Jersey on the back and they decided that would do for the album title. The only reason he has regretting is that that is when the consistent comparisons to Bruce really kicked in.
Doc was fired the night of the MTV Video Awards where Bon Jovi got the "Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award." He and Jon and Dorothea were in the back of the limo and Doc said, "I think we need to make some changes" and Jon said he agreed and fired Doc. Jon decided to create his own management company because he realized the way Doc was having them tour is what was killing them. None of them wanted to say, "Hey, I'm tired. Can we go home and rest?" Jon has always said he truly appreciates what Doc did for them and he credits Doc with managing their worldwide success, but that the band couldn't survive like that anymore and they had to sever the management ties. Jon and Doc are still friends. The drug thing happened long before Doc was fired. His drug conviction is what led to the creation of the Make a Difference Foundation. Basically, Doc got off with community service which equaled using his prestige to do some anti-drug concerts. That initial idea is what snowballed into the Moscow Music Peace Festival. Becky |

The next time any of you start making speculation like that, keep in mind there are members of the band that are weed smokers. He wasn't trafficking crack and heroin. That will help you get the logic in line. |
Wasn't New Jersey named that to differentiate BJ from the numerous LA hair metal bands at the time?
