Surely if he's old enough to go at concerts he's old enough to pick up a guitar... no?

i'd prolong getting him one for as long as.

it's an incredibly expensive hobby and there's still a good few years before you can tell him to usehis own money whenever he wants new toys to play with :-)

why'd he stop durmming i thought he loved it?

Start acoustic then :) There are good enough acoustic guitars at a fair price out there to start with, even second hand.

I thought it would be too much for his little hands. I remember learning the guiatar when I was little (don't remember the age though) and I got a guitar with a little neck, but still it was hard on my hands and fingers (go laugh).

It's a long convoluted story. Bottom line, he liked his lessons, but not practicing out of a book. I let him practice by just coming up with his own rythms - or listening to songs and figuring out the beat. After all, for me it was just a fun thing to do - no need to become Keith Moon - all I wanted was for him to have exposure and hopefully some fun. But that wasn't what the teacher or father wanted. He didn't make enough progress for the father to think it was worth to continue lessons. It also seemed as if the teacher had a rough time dealing with a 7 year old. Twice did he act in a way that I thought was not acceptable (he almost yelled) and my son almost cried. Anyway, I could find another tutor, but the whole thing gave my son a bit of a bad taste and I am not sure how much he wants to pick up the drums again. In fact, I asked him if he wanted to continue drum lessons until he is old enough for the guitar and his answer was 'Glenn (the tutor) said I wasn't any good'. (which is not what the tutor said, but what the kid took away from the whole thing).

Right now he is still learning the piano, not officially, but his Dad teaches him to play all sorts of songs. Mostly christmas songs and other childrens songs. Miles wants to learn Speed of Sound on the piano and I'll have to get the cd to his Dads house so they can start working on that.

Summers are always a bit tough on the instrument thing - with all the sports he's got going on....

ah well i can imagine worse things than him stopping drums.

I'd kick my boy out if he decided he was taking up drums before guitar to be honest :-)

drummers have a dodgy reputation for very valid reasons :-D

besides, there's nothing stopping him doing both on his own. the only thing teachers do is get them into genres and areas they wouldnt necesarilly go to, there's no reason why anyone cant do fine self teaching themselves.

Kev, all you can manage is half a pint of shandy and a bag of peanuts, even the smell of wine gums gets you pissed!

As for Jim, the one and only time I seen him drink I had to scrape his face off the pavement in Newcastle town centre, a little unsteady on his feet after a lager-top is our Jim!

you've got to look at it in the context that i was in newcastle and the only way to stop manky geordie birds harrasing me was to drink stella all day then fall graciously onto my face.

U2!!! They were simply incredible. It was worth every penny and then some. I can't even put it into words. Bono has the most beautiful voice...I could have sat (rather, stood and jumped around) and listened to him sing for another two hours. During Miss Sarajavo (the song they did with Pavarotti), Bono does the opera part...OH MY GOD!! He was wonderful. They dedicated Stuck in a Moment (a smashing accoustic version) to Michael Hutchense....made me cry!

I'm sort of just rambling here. I just can't express right now how great this show was.
