Did we decide earlier in this topic somewhere that musicals count? I saw Wicked last night, it was really good, been absolutely ages since I last saw a musical!

I just saw two shows - back to back this past weekend.
Friday night was Guster at the Beacon Theater in NYC. The are the self proclaimed kings of wuss rock (or soft rock) LOL. This is a band my daughter first introduced me to about 5 years ago - they have been around about 10 years. Five years ago I saw them live in Central Park in New york City and said that they had a long way to go. They weren't horrible - just very unpolished. I have seen them a few times since then and they have been only OK. Last Friday night was a completely different band. They have really taken a giant step and moved up several levels in my opinion. A very pleasant surprise - and maybe a reason they have improved so much - is a new guitarist from Nashville who is quite a bit older than the rest of the band. A great night of music in the city - and I recommend the band as long as you don't expect head-banging rock. Saturday night was Great Big Sea at Hammerstein Ballroom. They are from Newfoundland, Canada and they do traditional Irish music that rocks. What a show. I was in the second row from the stage and was simply transported. The harmonies are superb and the acoustic and electric guitars are impeccable. The lead singer Alan is one of the best frontman I have ever seen (and that includes Jon and Bruce). They are not well known in the US since they don't play what you would call traditional "rock" music. They play "traditional" music that rocks - and there is a difference. Both shows were recorded by my husband (from his lofty height LOL). Anyone interested in a copy of the show pm me. I am going to try to get both shows posted on dime in the next few days but it may take me longer considering the way my week is going. Kathleen |
John Mayer last night. I have to stop using Bon Jovi as a benchmark for any concert that I see. I'm used to the headlining act playing for 2 hours, sometimes more. John played for just under 90 minutes.
He's a very good guitarist, but not much on the interaction with the crowd. I was pleasantly surprised. Oh and he played my favourite song so that made the entire trip worth it LOL |
Last band I saw live was Goo Goo Dolls. Kick ass! They're wicked live.

Scissor siters and couple of days ago. It was really great and Ana Matronic is really cool!
|
Kelly Jones :) aka the Stereophonics front man...
then off to see Willy Mason in a couple of weeks! |
I'm seeing Kenny Loggins in a couple of hours.
