Friday - Carter USM. Fantastic 1993 party. A dancing, strangers-hugging celebration of a gig. So old school it had a You Fat Bastards chant and EMF supporting.
Saturday - Leonard Cohen. Just the best impulse purchase. Hypnotic, charming, precise, beautiful. Show of the year hands down. Sunday - Extreme. Pretty close to show of the year. Way better than they ever were. They know they are a club band playing to fans and played the hell out of every song. So much interaction and spontenaity and the best new drummer. Really loose and powerful. No fat. No solos. No extended jams or embarrassing rapping. Two frontmen in Nuno and Gary. Great medlies and teases. Worth every penny ;) Some pictures http://www.flickr.com/photos/9814600...th/3058695852/ |

Coheed & Cambria on Wednesday, playing the whole of their Good Apollo Volume 1 album in sequence, with an encore made up of a medley of songs from their other albums and a cover of Iron Maiden's The Trooper. Really good in general ... the songs are strong (although obviously when playing a full album, especially one with several songs that are over seven minutes long, there tends to be some filler), the band are great musicians and exciting to watch (although I do feel like they would benefit from having a visual aspect to their shows, like Tool or Muse). The last song of the main set, The Final Cut, was both awesome and incredibly overlong, stretching it out from 6 minutes to about 15 with duelling guitar solos and theremin (including the quite amazing spectacle of the frontman playing the theremin with his face and hair while still playing the guitar) was very cool, but then the ten minute drum solo following that pushed it way too far. Still, I'd give this show 8/10

On wednesday I'm off to see thw Wildhearts, then on Thursday it's all about Sleeping States. After that I'm off to see The Noughts and Crosses Band. The last live act I saw was Jonquil and they were excellent (though I thought the sound quality wasn't up to much).

Stereophonics - Sheffield
This was my 4th time of seeing them and def the best one. Heard Hangbags for the first time live and Kellys voice has improved so much over the years. You can't beat a good old greatest hits setlist, where you know every song. We even managed to get to the front for the encore, I'm a bit battered and brusied but it was worth it! Met up with some random Phonics fans in the hotel bar afterwards (loads of Kelly Jones lookalikes - which I didnt mind :D). Good night all round :) |

Chris Cornell at Shepherd's Bush Empire on Monday night. It was bloody brilliant! I managed to be almost right at the front on the very left hand side for most of it, which gave me a fantastic view, but I had to move further back about 3/4 of the way through, because I was literally right next to the speaker stack and it was hurting my ears!
Both the man and his band had terrific stage presence, making full use of the entire stage, jumping up onto raised platforms at either side, and just generally giving a far more energetic performance than when I saw him at Hyde Park Calling in 2007. Chris's voice is still spot on, even 19 years after some of the songs were recorded, and some of those vocals are pretty punishing! The only problem I had with the sound was that it went a bit funny half way through for a few songs, leaving Chris's voice sounding horribly digitised, and resulting in a performance of Rusty Cage where I didn't even realise what the song was until right at the end. I was a bit apprehensive when I heard he was going to be playing his entire new album (which hasn't even been released yet), I figured it would probably be the whole thing in sequence with a few older song tacked on at the end, and indeed it was at the other London show he played last week ... what I got was an incredible setlist with only about half of the new album (and not all in a row either!), and songs from every album he's released since 1990 (except for the third Audioslave album). If you are a fan of his (Spunky, I hope you are reading this!), then witness this awesomeness: Part Of Me Time You Know My Name No Such Thing Gun Spoonman (w/ Good Times, Bad Times [Led Zeppelin Cover]) Hunger Strike (with Tim McIlrath of Rise Against) Show Me How To Live Exploder Be Yourself Billie Jean (Michael Jackson cover) Ground Zero Never Far Away Gasoline Rusty Cage Can't Change Me (Acoustic) Fell On Black Days (Acoustic) Dandelion (Acoustic) Like A Stone (Acoustic) - Band Jam - Cochise Watch Out Burden In My Hand Pretty Noose Arms Around Your Love Scream Outshined Jesus Christ Pose Immigrant Song (Led Zeppelin Cover) Disappearing One Like Suicide That's 30 songs and 2 and a half hours of nonstop alternative anthems. ****ing brilliant. 9/10, for sure |
Last sunday I saw AC/DC for the 4th time. And it was very good as usual.:-)
Take care, Charlotte |

Just got back from the 'Shred Yr Face 2' tour finale tonight at 02 Academy 2 in Birmingham featuring Rolo Tomassi, ****ed Up, and The Bronx!!
****ing awesome gig! Totally sold out, electric atmosphere. Bands wer blatently pissed, it was a real party atmosphere. The singers from ****ed Up and The Bronx spent most of the show in their own mosh-pit. Immense! And Steph Carter (guitarist from Gallows) was standing next to us too (he's banging the chick from Rolo Tomassi) so that was cool! I'll remember this for a long long time! |
Fleetwood Mac
They were amazing still almost after 40 years. My friend had got the tickets and I had no idea where we were sitting until we got there...we sat on the main floor only about 10 rows away from the stage. Lindsey is really a great guitarist and Stevie still had her voice. The whole band was just in great music form. |
The Fray w/ Shelley Harland and Secondhand Serenade at Metro City, St Patrick's Day.;)
Supports were rather bland but **** I love The Fray.:D |
InMe at the Borderline last night, a teeny little venue, absolutely rammed and hot as hell ... gig was only 1 hour 15 cos of the curfew, but was still damn good!

Bruce (in Boston) last night. Quick review:
It doesn't ever get much better than this. |
Just back from the Specials. Buzzing way too much to sleep - the sweat was dripping off the ceiling in there. Absolutely bloody magnificent.
NOFX were meh on Friday - going through the motions. Though Snuff supported and they always put a smile on your face. |
Pink, absolutely fantastic!!!! From start to finish wow!
|
front row at sugarland a little while back. very good.

Just came home from the Pete Seeger tribute at MSG. Bruce had the comment of the night. "Pete" he said, "you outlasted the bastards". He also went on to say that Pete looked "just like your kindly old grandfather if you didn't know any better. A kindly old grandfather who can kick your ass" :D
This was a lineup of incredible talent. Joan Baez (who still sounds gorgeous) Tom Paxton Arlo Guthrie Dave Matthews Bruce Springsteen w Tom Morello Richie Havens Roger McGuinn Kris Kristofferson Taj Mahal and lots more - many of whom I forget right now. The concert started at 5:00 pm and ended at 9:40. Yes - a 4 1/2 hour show. I paid $20.00 for my ticket at Madison Square Garden. For the Nth time I'm so glad I live here and get to see this stuff. |

Had to rescue this thread.
Saw Skin from Welsh Wales last night - their first gigs in 12 years. And they were bloody magnificent. I felt 16 again. The actual 16 year olds in the audience were bored as ****, but a lot of love and a lot of rock in the room. |
Skin were actually the first band I ever saw - supporting Thunder back in 95.
Last gig I was at was the Counting Crows a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely great gig, and I was front and centre, which only ever improves things. |
