Great Terri - I love the January shows at BB Kings. It's after Christmas and I can relax since my mother has gone home, and I can enjoy the rest of the winter and the snow here without feeling guilty.

I've seen Southside with the big band and most of the Jukes with JBJ at the fan club show, but I want to see the package deal! Kathleen, unless the upcoming Jovi tour gets in the way, I'm gonna really try for that January date at BB King's!

I saw John Mellencamp last night, and he was terrific. He's touring with Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan, so he only has a little more than an hour. He's doing a really well thought out set -- some old songs (and not all hits either, and he's actually dropped the big hit Jack & Diane and the world hasn't come to an end ), some songs from his last album, a song he's just recorded for his next album, and even a few songs in the middle with just John and his acoustic guitar. I absolutely loved it, and I'm really hoping he won't skip the South on his next solo tour like he did last year.

What was Dylan like?

Crushgen24/88 08-11-2009 09:01 PM

Blink 182 and Fall Out Boy. FOB were amazing live. I was expecting to like them, but they blew me away. Patrick Stump has an amazing vocal range. Blink were nothing spectacular, but they were much better than the last time I saw them with No Doubt in '04. Ironically, I've seen them twice with no desire each time.

I lasted 3 songs before I left. And don't ask me what songs they were, because I have absolutely no clue.:lol: At that point, I hadn't understood one single word. I decided even if he did a song I knew I wouldn't recognize it! I had enjoyed Mellencamp's set so much, and I was NOT enjoying Dylan, so I figured why ruin the experience.

carson 08-11-2009 10:20 PM

kasabian at brixton was my last gig

Can't believe you walked out on the greatest songwriter of all time :( I know he's not particularly good live but come on, he's getting on a bit and it's Dylan!

I'm sure I've mentioned that I saw him in 99 on the double bill tour with Paul Simon. He was ****in' awful. Sometimes it took the entire song for me to figure out what exactly he was playing - and I'm a longtime Dylan fan.

His song writing is spot on, but his performing was never great in my opinion and now it doesn't even hold most peoples interest.

Do you have Dylan's "Royal Albert Hall" Concert from 1966, that was released on CD a few years back? Amazing gig, some of the songs sound even better than on record. I'd say as a peformer he was brilliant back then, so you should check that out soon. Of course, knowing you you probably actually saw him in his peak :D

Not only did I walk out, I walked out from the frickin' front row! LOL Like I said, I just couldn't take it, and I figured why should I? I know he's a great songwriter. Unfortunately, he isn't a great singer.

He also doesn't seem to care if he does or not. His band was set up at the very back of the stage . . . as far away from the audience as possible! LOL Mellencamp and his band were right up front at the edge of the stage, and it seemed like Dylan would have set up off-stage if he could have.

Sorry to disappoint, Ferret, but I tried it and just couldn't do it. (The show is on DIME if you want to see if you would have enjoyed it.) I fought horrible traffic to get to the show and knew I'd be back in it if I forced myself to stay. If Mellencamp had been last, wild horses wouldn't have gotten me out early, and I'd have happily blasted his music while I inched along.

Ferret 08-14-2009 06:29 AM

I've got more into Dylan's modern gigs recently (though I admittedly didn't go to any gigs on his last UK Tour). I've got a few bootlegs and I enjoy listening to them provided I accept he's not going to sing the songs like they were on record. Not that I don't wish he would! :)

mo_rizwan 08-15-2009 03:28 AM

U2 @ Wembley Stadium - They absolutely ROCKED!

Now I'm gutted that I don't have another ticket :(

88,000 - A New Wembley RECORD!

Captain Walrus 08-19-2009 03:46 AM

Pearl Jam in Manchester ... review on the Pearl Jam thread :D

Captain Walrus 08-19-2009 03:51 AM

Also it occurs to me I never posted about my last gig prior to Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails with Jane's Addiction at the 02.

Jane's Addiction were good, opening with Three Days was an odd move (basically the equivalent of Bon Jovi opening with Dry County), but it was still pretty awesome. Unfortunately, I was right up in the fourth level seating area (the highest level), so I couldn't make out the finer details of how the band looked that well. Still an electrifying performance, and their encore of Jane Says with steel drums and the band sitting with acoustic guitars at various points around the stage was very cool.

NIN were awesome, plain and simple. Of course, I was still bloody miles away, but I could still see enough of how energetic (and perhaps slightly deranged) the band were, and I could hear how well they pummeled out the songs. Was great to hear a few songs that I didn’t see them play live last time I saw them … Down In It being the main one that springs to mind. And a special guest appearance by the legend that is Gary Numan to play a couple of songs to perform a couple of his song (Metal and Cars) with the band was definitely something to be remembered!

Ang1e 08-19-2009 07:06 AM

Nickelback and Creed at Jones Beach. Nickelback have definitely learned how to make a great show from Jovi :)

yomamasofat 08-19-2009 11:11 AM

Jimmy Barnes. If anybody has the bootleg of the show where he opened for BJ and then they both jammed on Working Class Man, let me know.

Wasn't a big thing. I didn't make a scene or anything. Just ducked out. And I wasn't the only one leaving. With that line-up (Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Bob Dylan), I'm sure I wasn't the only person who was really only interested in one or two of them.

Alex 08-19-2009 09:21 PM

The husband scored himself one of the last tickets for Them Crooked Vultures, who'll perform tonight. God, I'm so jealous!

VanJovi 08-21-2009 06:26 PM

U2 at Wembley Saturday August 15th and had the time of my life.

I so wish I could see them again especially after the Sheffield radio broadcast last night, which was incredible.

Ac/dc......

Panda 08-23-2009 04:49 AM

Green day in las vegas...

I can only hope that the AC DC show in 4 days can at least compare to the green day show I saw yesterday....

kenobi_on_a_prayer 08-23-2009 07:15 PM

Shannon Noll. I don't care what anyone says, I don't care that he's a product of Idol...... sure, some of his songs are "lightweight" pop but this guy is a ****ing great live performer. He's currently on his "In the Raw" acoustic tour which includes a Q&A session, where the host goes around to people in the audience and they get to ask a question or propose to him as one girl did . Nollsy also played some covers and album tracks he wouldn't normally do live if it was electric. Wish Bon Jovi could do something as intimate as that! :(

Thierry 08-23-2009 07:55 PM

Boy oh boy, Shannon Noll, can you sink any deeper?

milomom 08-31-2009 08:10 AM

Chickenfoot! Folks, if they're playing anywhere near you, GO! I've been enjoying the CD, but they were even more impressive live. Sammy just never stops, and he's still got quite a voice for someone who's been at it so long. Chad Smith spent all night flinging sticks into the crowd without missing a beat and trying to hit the boom camera while he did it. LOL He's a trip. And Joe Satriani . . . wow. Just WOW! Utterly amazing. I was in the balcony just above him, and it was fascinating to watch him work.

They were shooting a DVD at this show. I hope it manages to capture the atmosphere of the night, because it was electric. The Tabernacle (an old church that was converted) was packed, wild and hot as hell! I hope my ears stop ringing sometime soon. :D

Thierry 08-31-2009 01:54 PM

Cool good news about that Chickenfoot DVD. Anyway I've been to The Offspring last Friday and it was awesome. :D

While I don't really care about them, I was dragged along by a friend and was suprised they were pretty good. Unfortunatly I out knew about 10 of the songs they played...

Jovi.girl 09-19-2009 05:24 PM

An Aussie Band called Juke Kartel totally awesome

brighton84 09-21-2009 12:10 AM

Steel Panther, what a fun night, silly lyrics, great stage banter and a couple of great covers thrown it.....All for 11 quid!!!

Miracle 10-16-2009 04:13 PM

Kelly Clarkson. Would have preferred if she had played some more stuff off her first album, but all in all, a great show. Girl has a set of pipes on her!

Chica Guacamole 10-16-2009 09:50 PM

Paolo Nutini. Great show, he has a great voice and his backing band are great fun as well :)

Rob 10-19-2009 01:24 AM

Frank Turner. Has anyone heard of him? He's an acoustic rock singer songwriter. Saw him in Manchester last Friday. I can highly recommend him.

KeepTheFaith2211 10-20-2009 09:07 PM

Black Stone Cherry

Fantastic show yesterday. Played for just under two hours, played some amazing covers(Voodoo Child, Hey Jude, Sweet Home Alabama) and the atmosphere was electric.

John Fred Young's drum solo was awesome and when he thre his sticks in the crowd I caught one. Got it signed by the band and got my ticket signed, too.

Great night!

asok80 10-21-2009 12:23 AM

Robbie Williams live (digitally) from London. Awesome show. Great experience.
Great new songs.

Cancer and Jupiter Jones last night :smilecol:

Late 10-25-2009 01:05 PM

I'm a bit late on this but U2 at Wembley on August 14th. One of the best shows I've ever been to. It was just superb! That is why I'm glad they're coming to Helsinki next summer, twice. :)

LittleLaura 10-25-2009 03:17 PM

Trivium and the end of Def Leppard at Download :)

belgium_BON_JOVI_fan 10-25-2009 06:06 PM

night of the proms in antwerp

was pretty good: OMD , john miles and roxette to name a few

first time i've been to this kind of shows and was breathtaking...

too bad that the singer of roxette lost her voice a few times and struggled to sing the high notes, but knowing where she comes from it's pretty impressive..

next year we're going back, classic music rocks if played live :-p

KTF,

Nick
