Good to hear Roxette are back.
Up on adrenaline after Green Day right now. 4* show. A hell of a lot of class, a hell of a lot of tunes that sound kinda like All the Young Dudes, boundless energy, touching crowd interaction, water cannons, confetti cannons, t-shirt cannons, human cannon. Great Arena Rock, but not Show of the Year Which was Therapy? A week ago today in front of 300 people in Wolverhampton. Haven't lost myself in the music or danced so much at a show in ages. So tight, so dark, and such a catalogue now. Their last album Crooked Timber was their best since Troublegum, but nearly 20 years of music in that set. Also Morrisey, the night before he collapsed. Made a couple of jokes about the Morphine Kicking In, seemed a slightly short set (80 minutes), arch, scary hero-worshipping fans, alright really.... |
Bon Jovi & JLS
(who would've thought I'd mention them both in the same sentence?) |

Back at Pink's Funhouse tour Saturday night.
|
Since september I remember: Anouk, Starsailor, Green Day, White Lies, Massive Attack. Tomorrow night : Editors
And the big shows last summer: AC/DC ; U2 ; Lenny Kravitz Highlights of the festivals: Franz Ferdinand ; Bloc Party ; Gossip ; Manic Street Preachers I hope that Stereophonics and Pearl Jam will tour around here with their new albums! |
Airbourne Toxic Event: ****ing fantastic. Image was certainly high up on their agenda (Aesthetically pleasing... or they are a bunch of poseurs), but a really exciting show, heartfelt reception, Springsteen cover (I'm on Fire) and a band gaining confidence as the night wore on (always good to see).
|
I forgot about this thead, anyway...
a-ha! :D I've got the day off tommorow so I'll finish up the review - I'm halfway through it already. My tutor is going to be so pissed when I haven't finished my assignment again... |
Through my job as a steward I saw beyonce on Wednesday who was alright, she has one amazing voice but the songs didn't really do anything for me!
And on my own accord i saw southside johnny last night, which was fantastic |
Well, I had a free ticket to Elton Johns gig in Sheffield after he very kindly donated a shed load of tickets to the Army, however he was ill and now he's said he isn't going to reschedule it. Bah
|
Through work i saw Kasabian and Reverand & the makers last night, The rev was very very good but im not really a big kasabian fan but ive some how ended up seeing them three times now :p
And then the arctic monkeys tonight who were fantastic, eagles of death metal were supported and the were pretty top aswell. During the monkeys big hits (when the sun goes down & mardy bum) the crowd was great! |
Dashboard Confessional a month ago. I am OBSESSED with them and their new album is AMAZING
|
I saw alice cooper last night and he was fantastic! What a show man, really enjoyed the show, the whole head cutting off, straight jacket etc was great!

Deep Purple @ the NEC, awful gig, the support band The Crave were better. The only highlight for purple was guitarist Steve Morse who is so underated
|
I saw David Cook in Mobile Tuesday night. He did a great job. He's a very competent vocalist. It was the 150th show of the tour and he still sounded amazing. Green River Ordinance and The Script were opening acts.
|
Worked a simple minds gig last night and they were fantastic, i hadn't really heard much of theirs apart from Dont You (Forget About Me) but i still really enjoyed the show, the lights and that were fantastic. OMD supported and they were pretty good too :D
|
I saw Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam at a little venue here in Atlanta on Thursday night. Amazing, amazing show. Davy looks like a kid on-stage . . . until he starts to play the guitar and sing. At that point, you realize that an old soul lives inside the guy. The set list was a really nice mix of 8 songs from the band's two CDs, 1 new song that they haven't recorded yet and 7 covers (mix of classic rock and blues). I took video of a few songs, but unfortunately the sound isn't as good as I might have hoped. (Too close to some speakers.)
I Shot The Sheriff - Amber's Song (beautiful song from the band's second album) - Cortez The Killer (absolutely blew me away) - Pistol Slapper Blues & As The Crow Flies (just Davy playing a vintage National Triolian Resonator Guitar) - In A Little While (the new song - sound really sucks on this one) - Davy Knowles is from the Isle of Man, and I keep wondering if some of you have seen him or know of him. I've mentioned him a few times on the board, but only Avantasian has responded to one of my posts. BTW, my ticket for this show cost $19.50 (with the fees). What a steal! |
i saw taylor swift at wembley a fortnight ago. she was very good, though i felt a little out of place! lol
|
I saw Gallows last night in the backroom of an old, supposedly haunted, pub in Derby called The Old Bell Hotel (it's been featured on that 'Most Haunted TV show).
The last time i saw them was at the O2 Academy in Birmingham, a 3000 capacity venue. This place last night was TINY!! Max capacity of 550, it was dirty, falling apart, and packed to the rafters. No shitty 10:30pm curfew, no security barrier at the front of stage, and only one security guard. The PERFECT environment for a punk rock show. Needless to say it was complete chaos. ****ing brilliant night!!:p |
Saw the bootleg beatles in the royal albert hall last night, very entertaining night, i was suprised how good some of the songs sounded actually, if i'd drifted away a little bit i probably would have been happy it was the beatles, only thing wrong was the guy playing ringo, his singing was pretty poor.
|
Saw the Trews last night at the Opera House in Toronto. Best 22 bucks I've spent in a long time :-D
|
Just got home from work, tonight I got to see;
kid British the twang cordiene velvet club snow patrol happy Mondays James All of the Bands were decent, the happy Mondays were the worst out of the bunch but James were fantastic! They had the BBC philamonic orchestra behind them and they sounded amazing, all in all it was a brilliant gig! |
I was supposed to see Alice In Chains last Monday, but it was just too much hassle what with various things, so I sold my ticket (for just £10! :(). However, on Wednesday my girlfriend and I went to see Marilyn Manson as her 21st birthday present. I do like his music, but I wouldn't say I'm a massive fan or anything, however he does put on a good show. Only problem is, I think he shot himself in the future foot somewhat in the early days ... you read stories about him ripping up the Mormon Bible on stage, or putting his penis on a security guard's head, and then when there's nothing to that level of shocking, you can't help but feel slightly dissapointed!

Quite the week last week
Wednesday - A Not So Silent Night. The Wainwright family & friends' Christmas Concert at the Albert Hall. From the Choir seats it was wonderful to hear Silent Night sung back at us by the audience; Rufus turned off his mike and still filled the whole hall singing Oh Holy Night (in French - lots of French Canadian stuff going on); Guy Garvey with a wonderfully moving, authentic take on Joni Mitchell's River; Martha and Ed Harcourt having a ball on Fairytale of New York. Looooads more. Appropriately festive. Thursday - Madness @ Birmingham Academy. About the only band who could make my first night out with my ex since we really broke up still seem uplifting. Wonderful example of a "singles" band (there are non more "singles" than Madness) can still fill a set with great album tracks and leave the audience dancing. Plus, y'know, Our House, Nightboat to Cairo, It Must be Love, One Step Beyond etc etc. Friday - Tragedy, the All Metal Tribute to the Bee Gees. These guys are just fantastic. Truly as much fun as you can have at a gig. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_P2n15I16Mxs/Sy...6/IMG_0257.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/_P2n15I16Mxs/Sy...6/IMG_0084.JPG http://lh5.ggpht.com/_P2n15I16Mxs/Sy...0/IMG_0189.JPG Sunday - Depeche Mode. Some really powerful moments, Martin Gore's solo turns particularly, but dark, stylish, crisp, felt like a band of stature. Really glad I caught them. It's also worth noting that all four gigs together cost about the same as one mid-priced Bon Jovi ticket. |
Going to the Madness christmas concerts are a bit of a christmas tradition me and my brother have now.
2 years ago my parents and some of their friends came along. We got some beers for the train and my mum was moaning about us drinking on the train incase we got hassle from the conductor. The train pulls up, the door opened and it was a full on rammy with people going to the gig all dressed up in their nutty boy gear, fezes etc... with ridiculous amounts of booze. Being the week before christmas the conductor was full of the bevvy too. It was a nonstop party all the way to the venue station. I'd actually have paid good money for it :D riverboat dinner with bon jovi fanatics? **** that give me a train full of drunk madness fans any day. |
The Pogues at The Apollo in Manchester last night. It was a good gig. The band are a really acomplished set of musicians and though he could hardly walk or talk Shane MacGowan sang well.
|
I just got back form seeing ian brown and he was absolutely fasntastic, he played all his hits and then a few stone roses tracks which were top, when the bassline kicked in for I Wanna Be Adored the arena went wild, it was just a top gig and i really enjoyed it :D
|
I worked the Miley Cyrus gig last night, its really not my type of music but she had a pretty decent stage show and she has her show nailed to a tee, it was really slick and came across great, the crowd seemed to love it. What i found even more amazing was the way she advertises her other ventures during the gig, for example when she goes off for a costume change they were running trailer of a new movie she's in and then she came out and sang the lead single (which is also on her new album). During the encore she came out wearing a t shirt they were selling at the gig, so as the people were leaving the amount of times i heard little kids saying "mum can we look at the merchandise" was countless.
It really is about a brand rather than just the music and its all very cleverly marketed especially with her main audience being children or parents of those children, i now understand why she is so big. Just as an example she sold out the arena two night in a row, so thats 34,000 tickets. Where as a few months ago kenny rogers sold 3,000 tickets there. |
Got back from London on Wednesday night after seeing Daughtry/Nickelback
at Wembley Arena. Really good show from both bands...and Chad's banter, he's just hilarious! Lots of pyros of course so glad I had my ear plugs with me. |
Depeche Moder here in Gothenburg last night. They were great. They always put on a good show here in Gothenburg, one of their oldtime strongholds. Great vocals both from Dave as well as Martin and good selection of songs even though I'd love to hear Waiting for the night again. Such a great song. BUT we got Dressed in black, which I am not sure I've ever heard live before.
|
Clearly my music taste has been stuck in the mid 90's the last few days.
Last night I saw Miles Hunt and Erica Nochalls from the Wonderstuff at the Little Civic in Wolves. Brought out my sentimental side. They're local. I grew up in Stourbridge, so the home-town sense is undeniable, but I saw the Stuffies at my first festival, hugged complete strangers in the crowd at their reunion gigs, got misty-eyed at Piece of Sky so many times. Wonderful gig. 70% Miles' solo tunes, but the violin added such warmth, and the tunes that really meant something to you growing up, well... The music lasts!!!! (when the whole audience, and the song!, just kick off at 1:31, it gets me every time.). MASSIVELY underrated band. Compared to say the nowhere-near-as-good James, or ANYONE from Manchester/Liverpool from the same period. |
SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY & THE ASBURY JUKES . . . finally! :cool::cool:
As Kathleen said, it isn't every band that will just tear into a song because someone in the crowd yelled the name, but that was just one of the things that happened Saturday night. What a terrific live band, and what a grand time it was! I've decided every band needs a horn section -- a talented but eccentric one, if possible. :D |

they haven't come to Gothenburg in a long time now and I haven't had the time to travel to Stockholm or Copenhagen/Malmoe to see them, but I have seen them quite a few times in the past and they always put on a great show (and long one at that). |
Todd Rundgren
Hammersmith Apollo, London 5 out of 5 * Paul Lester o Paul Lester o guardian.co.uk, Tuesday 9 February 2010 22.15 GMT o Article history Todd Rundgren Fabulous voice ... Todd Rundgren. Photograph: C Brandon/Redferns In a 1999 Guardian critics' poll of *alternative albums, Todd *Rundgren was the only artist apart from Nick Drake with two albums in the top 10. One was A Wizard, a True Star, his 1973 cult masterpiece made up of a side-long *sequence of mostly one-minute song fragments, a soul medley, a world *anthem to rival Give Peace a Chance, and a riot of prog, metal, glam and proto-punk, plus all manner of synthesizer tics, whooshes and *boings. But could it be *reproduced live? The 61-year-old came to London to *answer that question. But first, he added humorist to his *credentials by providing his own support act: Todd Rundgren's *Johnson, a four-piece playing covers by bluesman Robert Johnson. It was *hilariously typical of him, just as he's being hailed as a technopop *pioneer by Hot Chip and Daft Punk, to ally *himself to raw, ragged blues. And then the main event: A *Wizard, a True Star, the apotheosis of 70s *studio adventurism, made all the more exhilarating by Rundgren's eccentric costume changes. While the backing musicians, who handled the shifts of tempo magnificently, remained dressed in white suits, Rundgren switched from an astronaut outfit for International Feel, to a *jumpsuit for You Need Your Head, and to a fat suit for the surreal Just Another Onionhead/Dada Dali. Dogfight *Giggle was accompanied by sped-up US news footage that reminded you of the album's political subtext. It was *emotional, too. The 60s R&B medley had Rundgren in fabulous voice, and it was as riveting as the rest of the show was absurd, profound and moving. |
Paid on the door for Europe last night. WAY better than they had any right to be.
|
John Mayer, friday night at MSG. Really god set, well paced. And, despite what you may think from hearing his records, the man is a tremendous guitar player, and cuts loose much more live than he does on Disc.
