of course some people might act like that perfectly sober lol.

hehehe, your so right. Us Brits do that all the time, whether we have been drinking cups of tea all day or 15 pints of beer! :D

hehehe, yeah, I get very erm 'loving' when im drunk too. I was just kidding abou being able to drink that much in such a short space of time.Wine doesnt flow for me as well as other drinks. Wine doesnt agree with me at all sometimes. If I drunk wine regularly, then my body would get sued to it, and I could drink a lot more of it. Vodka and Beer are my two main friends :)

Ive been to a few shows recently, i did Keith Urban in London, Nick Harper in London and last week i saw Roy harper. I also saw a band called Winterville a couple of weeks ago. I have been really enjoying going out and seeing live music.

Jim Bon Jovi 10-27-2005 11:31 AM

i'm supposedly on the guestlist for the kaiser chiefso n saturday night but it's our work halloween do and i would literally lose my job if i phoned in sick. how very un rock n roll of me

was trying to get tickets for longviewon sunday night but they're sold out so i'm just going to catch a local cover band who're usually a good gig.

4 bottles of wine in 2 and a half hours is not goign to happen unless you're a raging alcoholic. 2 bottles of wine in a couple of hours gets me really pissed, 3 knocks me out. as far as units go it's the equivelent of drinking about 1 and a quarter litres of vodka or whisky. as i said, unless you're literally an alcoholic (and even then...) that much alcohol in such a short space of time would put you flat on your arse.

Twisted Sister and Alice Cooper last night

It was in the Brighton Centre, which is awesomely tiny, we can't have ever been more than about 10 metres from the stage, which was great!

Twisted Sister first: mighty. That's the best word I can think of to describe it. I only actually know 3 of their songs, but it really didn't matter. While Dee Snider may have looked like a drag Queen, he is every inch the rock n' roll frontman, fantastic voice, amazing stage presence, and even a funny guy!

Alice Cooper: fantastically entertaining. Any guy who mutilates a woman onstage, before singing a song while bound in a straitjacket, getting beheaded, and getting ressurected as a Frankenstein's monster has to be entertaining. And the songs were great as well, he may be looking a bit old, but he's still got the voice and the moves.

All in all a fantastic show!

spunkywho 11-11-2005 05:17 PM

Jethro Tull.

They gave out a live cd for every ticketholder which I think was great - who does that stuff???? The cds were supposed to be given out upon entrance, but weren't. When Ian whateverhislastnameis found out that they weren't handed out, he had a fit on stage and demanded somebody from management to come on to the stage to let him know what happened. Some dude walked out and they had a little talk and the cds were handed out during the break.

All in all, a great band --- even my son enjoyed it and he didn't know a song. He thinks the singer was a bit crazy, lol, which is hilarious given the bands he had seen so far...

Unfortunately, there was this woman behind me that had a fit when I used my phone to text message somebody - the light of my cell in my lap, hunched over, bothered her....... sigh.... I told her that this wasn't the symphony and she gave me a dirty look. :(

Jethro Tull did an hour of acoustic, then there was a break and they came back doing another hour plugged in. They performed all of Aqualung and then some.

Kathleen 11-11-2005 05:37 PM

I saw Jethro Tull (Ian Anderson) a million years ago and it was one of the worst concerts I had ever seen. Perhaps they have improved their live act. It's nice that your son gets to go with you - get 'em while they're young :D

...last gigs I´ve been to were OASIS in Hamburg, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf. Tell me what you want - it may always be the same & stuff but it´s always a hell lotta fun too :D

Funny cause I think their current bass player was not born at the time they released their first album, they truly are ancient.

There were no fancy light effects and nobody flew through the air, but it was still a good set. Different from the shows I usually watch and that flute thing is wicked, though I used to enjoy JT a bit differently ;)

Yes, I try my best in starting him young. Not only with concerts, but also musicals and I can't wait to take him to his first opera :p

he did the drums for about a year, but he isn't playing anything right now. He is talking about learning the guitar, but I think he still a bit young for the guitar. He did ask about singing lessons *rolls eyes* - no idea where that came from..... lol.

Surely if he's old enough to go at concerts he's old enough to pick up a guitar... no?

Jim Bon Jovi 11-14-2005 05:39 PM

i'd prolong getting him one for as long as.

it's an incredibly expensive hobby and there's still a good few years before you can tell him to usehis own money whenever he wants new toys to play with :-)

why'd he stop durmming i thought he loved it?

Start acoustic then :) There are good enough acoustic guitars at a fair price out there to start with, even second hand.

I thought it would be too much for his little hands. I remember learning the guiatar when I was little (don't remember the age though) and I got a guitar with a little neck, but still it was hard on my hands and fingers (go laugh).

It's a long convoluted story. Bottom line, he liked his lessons, but not practicing out of a book. I let him practice by just coming up with his own rythms - or listening to songs and figuring out the beat. After all, for me it was just a fun thing to do - no need to become Keith Moon - all I wanted was for him to have exposure and hopefully some fun. But that wasn't what the teacher or father wanted. He didn't make enough progress for the father to think it was worth to continue lessons. It also seemed as if the teacher had a rough time dealing with a 7 year old. Twice did he act in a way that I thought was not acceptable (he almost yelled) and my son almost cried. Anyway, I could find another tutor, but the whole thing gave my son a bit of a bad taste and I am not sure how much he wants to pick up the drums again. In fact, I asked him if he wanted to continue drum lessons until he is old enough for the guitar and his answer was 'Glenn (the tutor) said I wasn't any good'. (which is not what the tutor said, but what the kid took away from the whole thing).

Right now he is still learning the piano, not officially, but his Dad teaches him to play all sorts of songs. Mostly christmas songs and other childrens songs. Miles wants to learn Speed of Sound on the piano and I'll have to get the cd to his Dads house so they can start working on that.

Summers are always a bit tough on the instrument thing - with all the sports he's got going on....

Jim Bon Jovi 11-15-2005 01:45 AM

ah well i can imagine worse things than him stopping drums.

I'd kick my boy out if he decided he was taking up drums before guitar to be honest :-)

drummers have a dodgy reputation for very valid reasons :-D

besides, there's nothing stopping him doing both on his own. the only thing teachers do is get them into genres and areas they wouldnt necesarilly go to, there's no reason why anyone cant do fine self teaching themselves.

Kev, all you can manage is half a pint of shandy and a bag of peanuts, even the smell of wine gums gets you pissed!

As for Jim, the one and only time I seen him drink I had to scrape his face off the pavement in Newcastle town centre, a little unsteady on his feet after a lager-top is our Jim!

VanJovi 11-16-2005 11:02 PM

Alanis Morissette at King's College London, yesterday. :D

you've got to look at it in the context that i was in newcastle and the only way to stop manky geordie birds harrasing me was to drink stella all day then fall graciously onto my face.

U2!!! They were simply incredible. It was worth every penny and then some. I can't even put it into words. Bono has the most beautiful voice...I could have sat (rather, stood and jumped around) and listened to him sing for another two hours. During Miss Sarajavo (the song they did with Pavarotti), Bono does the opera part...OH MY GOD!! He was wonderful. They dedicated Stuck in a Moment (a smashing accoustic version) to Michael Hutchense....made me cry!

I'm sort of just rambling here. I just can't express right now how great this show was.

Kathleen 11-22-2005 03:03 AM

Bruce last Thursday night. It was such an incredible show that even the beer swilling, loudmouth Jersey people were absolutely silent for parts of the concert. One of the best that I've seen from him.

And then Guster at the Nokia Theater in NYC on Saturday night. All the 14 year olds were drinking and obnoxious and the sound sucked - a very different experience. I still like Guster though - they put on a good show.

One week from tonight for Bon Jovi :D

Stereophonics last Saturday - Alexandra Palace - London. Their last show of the tour and they put on a good performace for it. Highlights were Madam Helga, the encore (Roll up and shine, Just looking and Dakota) and the fit Shirtless drummer ;)

Oh and they played a couple of rarieties, one was a b-side from their first single, Carrot cake and wine (btw Kev I found this last night if you want iot :)) who says the rare songs cant be enjoyed by the casual fan!

Oasis at the beginning of this month. Great show, which did have a couple of average songs though (Mucky Fingers, Wonderwall), but the highlights (Live Forever, Acquiesce, Don't Look Back In Anger, Masterplan, Songbird) much more than made up for it!
