I prefer his rock style live rather than the country stuff also. At his last concert I went to he did a few country cover songs that I didn't even know! In saying that, because Keith combines the country music with the rock it's not too overpowering and I'm in awe of him anyway because he's such a great guitarist and vocalist. I was particularly impressed when Keith and the band did a cover of Aerosmith's "What it Takes" - that was one of the best songs of the entire night :D I really hope he comes back to the UK to do another tour soon.

Cool. Wouldn't mind hearing that version of What It Takes.
|
It was a really cool song - Keith was on drums and let 2 of the other band members sing lead vocals. I also heard that they do a cover version of Tom Petty's Free Fallin' at quite a lot of their concerts so hopefully I'll get the opportunity to hear that too at some point in time :)

Yeah I love the Free Fallin' version on the Livin' Right Now dvd. He really gets the crowd to interact during that song.

not a day goes by when i dont kick myself for not seeing easyworld when they were still together, so go see dave when he's still starting out- you are so gonna love it!!! |
I saw two local punk bands last night, Chicks Dig Scars and Berrick. Both of them had people I know in them, both of them were pretty awful really ... but in an entertaining way. CDS especially, the best way to describe them would be "the best worst band you will ever see..." ... spent probably more time taking the piss out of the audience and themselves than they did playing music :D

I went to U2 concert here in São Paulo, Brazil in 20/02... what a concert!
Amazing... after 8 years, they come back to Brazil to made 2 sold-out stadium concerts, 73,000 fans in each night... they give us an amazing night, Bono said many things in portuguese during the concerts... after it, the band still here in Brazil to carnival... =) One pic, I entering in the stadium |
I saw Keith Urban in Tallahassee last night--last show of the tour. COOLEST CONCERT EVER. He played 2 hours and 40 minutes and did at least 28 songs. They started tearing down the stage while he was still playing, breaking it up, an giving pieces of it to the audience. I'll be writing a full review for Unrated Magazine and the fansits soon.

I saw David Gray in Cincinnati last Tuesday night. He put on an amazing show, I thought. He did mostly songs from 'White Ladder' and 'Life In Slow Motion', which is good because those were the two albums of his that I had at the time :) He did some pretty surprising but very good covers: the Cure's "Friday I'm In Love" and Johnny Cash's "Long Black Veil" which he introduced with "This one goes out from the man in gray to the man in black." He played his guts out, too...over half of both albums with some stuff from his other releases and the aforementioned covers. He didn't have a lot of chat time in between either. The crowd was really into the show from what I could tell, with lots of cheers of approval--one of which caused Mr. Gray to say "Jesus...are you going to have my baby?!" which I found to be hillarious.
Aqualung opened. I'll be honest, I'm still unclear as to whether Aqualung is a 'they' or a 'he' but I think the correct answer is 'he' so that's what I'm going to go with, for now anyways. He (they?) did a great set, I thought. I had only heard "Brighter Than Sunshine" which they closed the set with. I'm probably going to buy the album, or at least a couple of songs from itunes. |
The Subways: Liverpool Academy: Friday 8th April 2006 :D
Great gig. Definateoly see them live again. Seen them twice now, and already looking forward to the next time! |

LIVE in Paradiso Amsterdam, last saturday, April 8th 2006 :p And it was probably my best gig ever! I've never seen so much chemistry between a band and a crowd. It was amazing. Can't wait to see them again two more times later this summer :D |

The tickets were expensive, so there was a lot of anticipation. They did play for 2.5 hours!!!! Which was amazing. They played Queen and Bad Company songs and both Brian May and Roger Taylor sang a couple of songs. Brian May's guitar work is amazing. As is the light show :) What was a bit weird was that this is the first time I've heard Queen songs not sung by Mercury - but Rodgers did a great job by NOT trying to replace Mercury but singing and performing in his own style. I LOVE his pants - all of them... Bohemian Rapsody was done via a big screen with Mercury singing the song and Taylor and May playing along - at the end of the song Rodgers came in. In a way there was nobody else but Mercury who could have done that song (and it was a shortened version), but in another, it was weird to run a video for a song... I guess it was either that or not including BR in the set and I am glad it was in it... Contrary to newspaper reports, the show was not 'packed solid' -- in fact, it might have been half full. (can't stand the dude that does concert reviews for our paper) So anyway - it was a great show but pricey and I don't think I'd see them a second time around. Though am glad I did see them once. |
Thanks for the review. I thought about going to see them in Buffalo last March but decided to pass. If I ever go to Vegas I do want to go see the Queen Tribute We Will Rock You. I've heard they are awesome.
|
Saw a Pink Floyd tribute band last night, called Off The Wall. They were very good, got through most of the classics. A nice use of lights and lasers. The video backdrop was pretty cool, too.
|
Saw Controller Controller and Be Your Own Pet on Tuesday.
Controller Controller were okay, not great though, while BYOP were just terrible. Immature high school punk rock band on drugs. The instruments didnt play together at all and the voice of the singer was just awful. |

Embrace - Halifax 17/4/06
Quality gig this one. Iv only seen them once before and wasnt overly impressed but theyve released a fantasic album since then so I really enjoyed the set. TBH part of the reason I got tickets was because it was their local show (they are from Huddersfield) and it really showed. They played an extended gig and you could tell what it meant to them to play in front of their hometown fans. Ashes just ROCKED the whole place just shook, Natures Law was also class, with their older stuff like all you good good people and come back to what you know going down a storm. Only slight disappointment was they didnt play the official world cup song which I dont think anyone has heard yet. |
Ryan Adams and Jesse Malin both solo and accoustic.
Not sure what to say here about it. I don't do well with shows in darkness.... But Jesse Malin was cool he brushed by me while we were waiting in line to get into the venue (wearing the worst pair of pants I have seen in my entire life) and he hung out at the t-shirt stand for quite a while. Gave my son an autograph which was cool. Nasty hair though ;) Quite a low voice for such a whiney dude too lol. |
I saw the Great Big Sea on Saturday night. It was an incredible concert. It was my first time seeing them live and I was blown away by the energy and musicianship of the band. They are a small group from Newfoundland, Canada. They sing very traditional songs in gorgeous acoustic harmony with mostly all acoustic instruments. If they come this way again I will definitely buy more tickets.

Bob Dylan & Merle Haggard
The Hag was pretty good. Bob Dylan was AWFUL. I mean BAD. VERY BAD. I left before the show was over. |
Quote:
I thought the Haggard/Dylan combination to be incredibly ironic -- I don't understand why the two tour together. It seems that they aren't exactly philosophically compatible? |
I think they were going to call it The Grumpy Old Men tour, but the movie-makers wouldn't let them. Haggard got annoyed with a fan dancing around to one of his biggest hits and stopped mid-song and started another one.
