To all you people who do not believe in God...
from another music forum that's predominantly american and spends more time arguing about religion and US party politics than music:
TO ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO DO NOT BELIEVE IN GOD "You say you do not believe in God for one reason or another which is your right and I respect that. You say that there will never be a second coming of Jesus. You chose not to believe in God so you do not fear God. My justification for why I believe in God is many but for one, I would rather live my life as if there is a God, and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't, and die to find out there is. In the latter, if I did not believe in God, and when I died, DOH!!! " seems like a pretty shitty reason to believe or promote religion IMO. Believe it if you think it's true, you think it's right, moralistic or whatever, not because you think hey I better keep my back covered just incase you know who is waiting for me on the other side. I know I probably seem like I've got a huge thing against religion and I don't really but now and again there's just some stuff I need to vent on. |
Personally I hate religion in any form. Of course this slightly contradicts with my belief that everyone is free to think and believe whatever they want to, but with religion it isn't really what you believe than what you've been taught.
Religion in any form throughout history has done lots of bad for the world, and other than originally keeping the masses under control it has never really served any good purpose. It is believers who killed non-believers, not vice versa. It is believers who started wars over what they believed. It is believers who kill others for no reason. One thing that I always found curious is how apparently god is everywhere, yet large churches are built for people to go and worship him, which seems rather pointless when he is apparently everywhere. Religion will always be a hot topic everywhere for a long time I think, and all we can do is discuss it for now, not really argue, and hopefully there will be evidence somewhere in the future to show if religion is right or not (ie proof of god) |
Personally i think that everyone should be free to think what they want and belong to whatever religion they want to up to a point- i think all of the poeple who take religion to the extremes (such as the people who stomed that woman to death on the other thread, and people who believe in honour killings) are evil and the world would be better of without them.
I don't believe in God exactly, but i do believe there is something out there. The reason for this is that if i were to believe in the God that is in the bible then i would have to believe that there is only one God, but if that is true then when people die what hapens to people of other religions- do they not go to heaven? I believe there is something out there but they are not specific to one religion because if it were it would be like discrediting people of other faiths. |

Funny thing is - many people that pray on a regular basis, claim that they feel better afterwards.
It is probably just psychological, but I bet it beats taking anti-depressants!! I believe there is something out there - Until science explains (which it can't) consciousness & why I have suddenly gained it in the year 1980, I will continue to do so. I do however believe that religions portray the right message i.e. how we should live our lives, but make up a lot of rules which I think are unnecessary - using ppl like Jesus as a form of spreading these. I have a thing about culture at the moment & think a lot of these rules depend on what culture the religion has evolved with / from (hence why there r so many different ones). |
you just got to be true to yourself wether you beleive in religion or not

I'll summarise just one of the many reasons I think religion is fake and a blemish on society -
A friend of mine has, within the last year or so "found her faith" and become fanatical about Christianity to the point of regularly writing out and dissecting verses from the bible in her spare time to gain a "deeper understanding" of her faith. Several weeks ago, in the service before Easter Sunday, the priest/vicar (whoever! ) apparently told everyone to remember to put their clocks forward an hour when switching back to British Summertime for the next service in a weeks time. He then went on to say that, in this way, they can catch out all of the people who only go to church at Xmas and Easter as they will all turn up an hour late and, when they do, the congregation can turn around and laugh at them! How very "Christian"! Pretty f**ked up if you ask me and yet another case of them getting on their high moral horse and thinking that because they go to church, they are better than everyone else! It makes me sick! What I don't understand is, what makes them think that because people weren't in the previous service, they would forget to put their clocks forward anyway? |
Believe in me instead. It'll be more fun i promise.
