Mobile Phone Usage

How much do you spend (on average) on your mobile (cell) phone each month?

I have been a loyal Orange customer for the last four and a half years, and the contract which I have been on for the last two years is Ģ30 per month and for that, I get 200 minutes cross-network and 500 text messages inclusive. I recieved my latest bill a few days ago and to my horror was Ģ86. I know for some people here, this may not seem to bad, but for me it is.

Basically, they have stopped my 500 free txts without informing me, and charged me for all that I sent last month, which is why my bill is so high this time around. I phoned up to complain on Friday and only today has a supervisor actually got back to me about this. She said I should of been told that it was going to end and that I was told in writing that my inclusive text message bundle was due to end. This is not the case. There is nothing she or anyone else at this network can be done but she has credited my account with Ģ30, which will go off next months bill, which is a small conselation (sp?).

Because I feel I have been treated very unfairly, I would lo be disconnected from my contract, but was told that this would cost me a further Ģ120. A complete joke in my opinion, but what can I do? I cant complain anymore than I have done already, so I can either pay that one off lump some, or contunue paying this company Ģ30 a month until September for JUST my 200 free minutes.

If I had known this was going to happen, then I would not have signed up for the extention to my contract in the first place.

Anyway, after long consideration, I have decided to join another network where I get 500 minutes and 500 text messages inclusive for Ģ25 a month. Only problem is, I now have to pay for two contracts until September, but I fealt this was the better option, rather than struggling to find a Ģ120 lump-some and not actually get any benefit from it. I may as well use my 'current' phone to just use up the minutes.

Has anyone else had problems with their mobile phone contracts, coz I am really annoyed with this tonight.

Well not everyone sends a text message every minute of every day Kev, but yes that is a problem and if they really didn't inform you then you should be able to get the money back really.

...and I'm only guessing that after this you are rather put off seeking employment with them

I rarely use my phone, I just have a pay as you go phone and I hardly phone anyone, and just usually send silly text messages, maybe 20-30 a week when in Uni. Over the summer though I probably won't use it too much.

I have prepaid, it costs 17,90 € per month and includes 500 minutes + 100 sms. I'm pretty happy with it. :)

Good to hear that mobil phone service carriers suck worldwide.

I hate mine, but unfortunately they are all the same, so I don't bother switching until I want a new phone.

@kev: The thing I donīt really understand is - why can they change your contract that easily? I never heard that someone can change the conditions - at least here in Germany it is the thing, that they can only do this when you ne to renew your contract or when it is going to stop - itīs not possible during the running time of the contract....

Well, for me, I was really down with my mobile during the last months. Only paid like 10€ - but now it is going up again  Normally pay around 30€ - itīs okay for me ;)

Well this is what I tried telling them. I had this 'deal' for 12 months and when I signed the following 12 month extention, you would think it was for twelve months, correct? Surely I should of been told that my '500 free txt messages' were only going to last for six months? They claim I did, and it is down in my contract that I signed. I actually cant find my copy of the contract, so theres not too much I can do about it. As I said though, if I was actually told when I extended my contract, that it was going to end after only six months, then I certainly would not have signed up for a further twelve months with them. I could of looked elsewhere six months ago, and not had this hassle of being tied down to them for the full twelve months. I still think its a complete joke the way they are treating me.

I'm on pre-paid, but I will be lucky to spend A$30 for a month and a half.
