New BJ v Old BJ
 

I think it pretty much goes without saying that BJ's old stuff is preferred over their new stuff (although new material is always appreciated!).

Anyway I thought i'd do a post because people have different opinions on why BJ's Old stuff is better.

Personally I reckon it has a lot to do with their music becoming more "mature". I reckon with this new album that is supposed to be coming out BJ would do well to still make modern sounding music, but to lose the maturity a bit (hopefully we would end up with tracks like a modern sounding 'bad name').

Anyway, what does everyone else think?

As for me growing up in the 80's im gonna go with the older stuff. The sound, the scene, the look.... It was just awesome! I Just wish i was a little older so i could have hooked up with those hot ass 80's broads with teased out Aqua Net permed hair! I blame my parents for waiting too long to get drunk one night and make me.

But i think lot of it has to do with the different Generations. I notice a lot of people on here who are 17-19 like the Crush/Bounce material..which is like you said the new material is good but IMO nowhere like the first 4 albums.


A new radio station here in Philly just played White Lion's "WAit" I almost fell off my chair.

First, I think you have to define what is old and what is new. Depending on where your line of divide is, you may find that people do not prefer the "old stuff."

Well what about Keep The Faith and These Days?

Those are the Forgotten years.

Apparently it is pretty difficult if you don't know where to put KTF and These Days. Old or new? Those are two of my three favorite BJ CDs... so how they're defined would have a big impact on what I consider old or new.

I propose a new categorization:

Infantile: BJ and 7800
Adolescent: SWW and NJ
Adult: KTF, CR, and TD
Mid-Life Crisis: Crush, OWN, Bounce, TLFR

Well obviously you don't like those albums too much, and you obviously prefer the 80's Bon Jovi, but for many I think that Keep The Faith and These Days are two of the bands biggest albums.

Personally I see it all as 4 eras, the first being when the band where quite small (Bon Jovi and 7800 Fahrenheit), then came the successes of Slippery When Wet and New Jersey when the band where propelled to stardom. Then I see the re-invention as it where with Keep The Faith and These Days. Finally after a few years apart comes another re-invention with Crush and Bounce. Perhaps the new album will herald a new era in the bands history.

Personally I cannot pick a single time that sums up what I like best about the band, I do like most of the albums, less so the first 2, but I enjoy different eras of the bands progression for what they are. I don't expect, nor would I particularily enjoy hearing lots of the same, which is why I like Bon Jovi. There are other bands that I listen to and their material can sound quite similar from one album to the next, not identical but enough to see a style, but with Bon Jovi comparing any two albums you can see quite a dramatic change in style I think.

I think my favorite time is the Slippery/NJ era. It was just the band at their peak, full of awe at their new found stardom. Their enthusiasm was different than it is today because it was all so fresh and new. Plus, the music just rocked! 8)
