glazer's man united takeover

so what do you think of this debacle?

Chelsea haven't done too bad having a really rich dude at the helm.

You've got to wonder about the business sense of a guy who from what i gather has no clue about football never mind the club he's buying, can't run a fake (american) football club for shit and has plunged one of the worlds biggest clubs with regards to turnover into major debt overnight.

there's much easier and less risky ways to launder and get a return on money than football clubs.

a mate reckons he'll make the money back selling his american football teams merch over here and man u's gear in the states  if people are talking about throwing away season tickets and boycotting united's merchandise I can't see them running out in hordes to buy crap from this guys other teams.

The biggest difference between Glazer and Abramovich is that Glazer has to loan the money to buy United, so he doesn't have the same financial power as Abramovich does. So I am 100% sure that we are not going to see Man Utd spending money on players like Chelsea did.

Glazer isnt rich at all imo. He is in millions of pounds worth of debt, and there is really nothing that the manchester united fans can now do. Protests at saturdays cup final will be pointless, as he already owns 75% stake in the club and no-one can exactly take that away from him.

Manchester United are going to end up exactly like Leeds United. Once taken off the stock exchange, he will have full ownership of the club and the entire enterprise will be riden in debt. Glazer doesnt care about football. He doesnt care about the team, he just believes it is a great business venture that will earn him more millions. Im afraid to say, I think its a huge mistake. I am counting down the days now untill we see United in the lower leagues. I can honestly say I dont want this to happen, but its just the general direction that the club is now going.

The remaining shareholders may get annoyed and react angrily, but if the 'so-called-fans' were THAT concerned about the club and 'so' against this takeover, then they wouldnt have sold their shares to Glazer in the first place. United fans only have themselves to blame IMO.

like teemu mentioned though, there isn't going to be a massive investment in the club at a squad level but glazer's takeover may shake up the 'business' side of the outfit. it's still to be seen, however, whether the FA or UEFA approve of a club carrying so much debt. i dare say they'll make an exception as it's man utd and they'll escape punishment.

That is true Richie, but what about all the other hundreds millions of pounds that he has had to borrow to secure his stake in the club? Glazer may have a lot of money in potentially sound investments, but he still owes a hell of a lot back! And he wont be able to do that until the team starts to perform on the pitch, which means a further investment and by giving Sir Alex Ferguson a large transfer kitty to spend in the summer to strengthen his squad. Fans who disaprove of this takeover are already starting to boycot the clubs megastore which is resulting in a huge loss.

My team, Brentford, is currently upwards of just £7m in debt, and we are in real danger of going out of business, but do any premiershite fans give a toss? Nope! Man U can go to the wall as far as i'm concerned!

This really blunder IMO... Its going to hurt Man United big time, its sad that all the share holder have to sell there stock to him... and he doesn't even know what is football(real)...

Same here, I think Man U fans are getting into a state about nothing, they are far too rich to ever go broke. The situation at Leeds was totally different, they didnt have the worldwide income Man U have, plus they will finish in the Champions leage every season which generates massive income. Like Daveyboy says think of the clubs like Cardiff, Brentford, etc who live hand to mouth just to survive.

Also fans who protest against this move at the cup final on Saturday are pathetic IMO and will ruin a great day.

Thier fans should face up to the fact that Manchester United PLC became a business a hell of a long time ago, they sell all the shite to Japan, Singapore etc so why not the states???

Jim Bon Jovi 05-16-2005 09:50 PM

I was just makign the point that if fans are going to boycott Man U merch, they're not going to be rushing out to buy american football crap and besides fans of his football team, no one in america is going to be buying man u strips by the lorry load.

I still don't get the whole reason behind the move by glazer, seriously, he seems pretty clean IMO and football is not the best way to investment for any consederable return.
