Interview soon - question

Two dozen job applications later, someone's interested! YEEEHAAA!!!

I'm interviewing at Family Video, a local video store, on Wednesday, and I'm in a bit of a conundrum that I could use a bit of help with. I'm divided as to whether or not to wear a tie. I'm wearing nice jeans and a black, longsleeved button up shirt with a small blue and silver stripe pattern (I'd wear either my white or black dress shirt, but my mom says I should wear something with a little more color). I don't know if I should wear a tie though. It's not an office or desk job that I'm applying for - the other employees wear khaki pants and slightly dressy shirts while working, so it's not REAL formal.

My dad says a tie would make me look like I'd put in the extra effort to look good. My mom says it'd make me look kind of geeky and a little pretensious (spelled wrong, I know), considering I'm just interviewing at a video rental store. I agree with both of them. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Adrian

If you're wearing jeans then no.

Only wear a tie with dress trousers.

don't want to be mixing smart cas and smart.

as long as you look presentable you're OK from my experiences.

I'd wear Khakis instead of the jeans. Don't think a tie is necessary, but I always think it is better to be overdressed than underdressed ;)

But I honestly have no idea about those sort of jobs as I only interview for suit jobs :(

I think you'll be fine any which way :)

As soon as you start let me know how good the porn section is. Will you do that for me? Thanks! Good Luck man!

I think Family Video suggests that they only have good wholesome FAMILY movies

Since the employees wear khakis, wear those. No jeans! No tie either. That would be over-doing it for a video rental shop.

General rule of thumb is to dress as the employees do, giving the image of fitting in. This pretty much goes for just about any job.
