A 12-year-old girl has been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm on a five-year-old boy.

Detectives investigating the assault on Anthony Hinchliffe, found wandering in woodland with serious neck injuries on Tuesday, have also charged the girl with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Five children aged between 11 and 12 were originally arrested following the attack, which took place near Anthony's home in Earlsheaton, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

Four of the children were subsequently released without charge and police say they are no longer looking for other suspects in connection with the incident.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire police said the girl charged with the assault was in the care of a youth offending team and would appear in court on June 10th.

On Friday, Anthony's mother Terry Brown, 32, appealed to anyone with information about the attack to come forward, after her son was found wandering alone with ligature-type marks around his neck and bruises on his body.

Police believe that Anthony, found by his 22-year-old cousin Tracey Jones, was led away from his back garden to the wooded area where he was discovered injured, near Earlsheaton Medical Centre.

Investigators have confirmed that a number of items have been recovered from the scene.

GBH? from what i heard she or they tried to hang him.

they're claiming that it was a game that went wrong so the most they can get them for is the marks left on his neck.

How can they claim it was a game when the boy is only 4. He wouldn't have had any say in what the 'game' was and wouldn't have had a choice in doing it.

I heard about it.
