I can work at Wal-Mart again..

..well, if I wanted to. But I donīt. But not flirting at work (or anywhere else for that matter) seems wrong.

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - A German court has upheld the right of Wal-Mart staff in Germany to flirt at work, a spokesman said Thursday, showing that Germany's restrictive labor laws also have their permissive aspects.

The court rejected parts of Wal-Mart's code of conduct relating to employees' love lives, alcohol and drug use and a requirement for staff to report code violations via a so-called ethics hotline, the spokesman said.

He could not immediately confirm the grounds on which the Wuppertal employment court had ordered the clauses to be removed for German staff, saying the judge's opinion was still in the process of being written.

The Financial Times Deutschland said the court had found the clauses, including one banning "any kind of communication that could be interpreted as sexual," contradicted German labor law, in its ruling on the case brought by Wal-Mart's works council.

Wal-Mart Germany, which is based in Wuppertal and can appeal against the decision, had no immediate comment.

The ruling could have far-reaching effects for U.S. companies with staff in Germany. Such restrictions are increasingly common in U.S. corporate culture as firms seek to prevent scandals that could damage their reputation.

An affair with a female executive led to the downfall of Boeing's chief executive in March. The company fired Harry Stonecipher when the affair came to light, saying his conduct broke company rules and damaged his ability to lead.
Flirting at work: yay or nay? And where do you draw the line? I know of two co-workers who had sex on the table of out managing director: I think They went over the line. And I guess when you can't manage to get your work done because you spend too much time on sending out hot e-mail to co-workers, that that would be a line too.

I happen to work with a handful of incredibly good looking girls like ones you'd be all over in a club. Beng so hot and cool most of them have boyfriends but everyone still flirts.

I flirt like the dirty manwhore I am with all of them. It's all a bit of fun,

I guess it depends on the kind of job and environment. If guys in bars can't flirt - that would be just wrong.

On the other hand, I don't want my boss to flirt with me or every single other female in the office. He most definitely repeatedly steps over the line and it makes half the women in the office extremely uncomfortable. He's been spoken to on a regular basis and he tries hard not to do it, but eventually he'll revert back to his old self.

We have to do annual sexual harrassment trainings and I was shocked when I did my last one, cause I am guilty on many accounts. Sexual harrassment is not only to ask for sex in lieu of a promotion. It is anything that would other co-workers make uncomfortable. Based on their religion, background, upbringing, ethnicity, things can make one person extremely uncomfortable while another wouldn't flinch. It is still wrong.

My friend had to go through a sexual harrassment suit. SHE was sued by some co-worker at her former job. It eventually got settled by her firm as it was clear that it was only him trying to get back at her as he thought she got him fired. Anyway, the point is that the firm shelled out significant money in her defense and paid him a good deal of money to make him go away - even though it was clear that he had no case. Hence, I totally understand that companies want to reduce any and all kinds of possible retributions from inappropriate behavior! Not to mention the havoc it caused in her personal life and relationship with her husband (honey, I am being sued for sexual harrassment...). She now is extremely careful of what she says and how she interacts with people... once bitten twice shy, I suppose.

8) I do my best. I've only been hit on 3 times in work like properly hit on. One girl was incredibly drunk to the point she kind of disgusted me, one was stunning but I dunno how cool her boyfriend woulda been about her giving me her number (damn my morals) and one was mentally handicapped. If I didn't flirt like a mofo I'd get no love

As for sexual harrasment. I think you need a good idea of what the person is like and how they'll react. You can get away with alot with some people and on the other hand. some will be totally offended even if you make a joke but I'd say I'm a pretty good judge of character with that respect. The problem is with bosses, No one really wants to piss the gaffer off so they don't know if they're crossing the line because they just assume if no one says anything then they mustn't mind.
