how lazy are we as a society?
just pondering this one because I think we're really going to shit as far as exercise n whatnot goes.
I walked home from a gig last night which was about 4 miles roughly and my bro was really surprised but I mean 4 miles isn't exactly alot when you think about it is it? To coin an old chestnut, back in the day my great grandfather would walk to Ibrox from around here to see rangers playing and it's alot more than 4 miles I'll tell you, probably hitting close to 15 each way and no one thought anything of it because pretty much everyone did it if they supported Rangers. Now that would be unheard of, myself included... I refuse to drive places I can walk easilly enough n only take the car to the gym cos a walk home up-hill on a warm day when you just want to dive in a shower and have just spent an hour plus in there working out is a pain in the arse. I suppose half of this has to do with my bro's comment and watching michelle mcmanus on telly there. she's a pretty extreme example but someone saying: it's not that i mind walking, I just don't want to, i dont see the point in it... christ is it that much of a burden? are we just getting lazy? |
Yes.

I'd answer but it would take too much effort. :P

When I go to the cinema I usually walk, probably about 3 miles, and I don't think I'd bother getting a car, if I go further I tend to get a bus or train.
As a society though we are definitely far more lazy, people use their cars for short trips, people shop online even doing their food shopping, parents drive their children to school even if it's only am ile or two away, plus of course all the crap we eat now I doubt we'll survive much longer like this. |
^ i don't think it's as severe as we'll all be dying out in the close future but we can't just blame mcdonald's and co for people getting fatter (which also happens to be an increase in laziness ie instead of cooking people would rather drive and buy a big mac raking the same amount of time it would take to make a proper meal )
it's not like staying in shape is hard. I lost a good bit of weight last summer in a month and a bit just hitting the gym for a couple of hours a day. Now that's a bit excessive but to lose weight it done the trick, to keep in shape all you need to do is not eat crap and exercise (which walking would constitute) whenever possible. it's not like it's some huge struggle and believe me I have the worst self-control around. |
I regularly (at least once every 3 days probably) make the walk to college (and my girlfriend's house, which is only 5 minutes walk from college) and back. Dunno exactly how far it is but it takes about 35-50 minutes each way, so perhaps about 3 miles? I am constantly worried about keeping in shape, but apart from the walking and trying to eat well, I don't really do a huge amount about it

What annoys the heck out of me are people that can't be bothered with parking in a parking spot, but park right in the drivers lane to pick up their kids from school or to run into the store. The parking spots are 10 feet further. Talking about lazy shits! |
i guess car use has just gone too far

It's too hot here to walk any farther than the car.
