Hey you can see my house from here!

Or not, but I found many interesting places. See if your house can be found:

http://maps.google.com/

and turn on the "Satellite"-option.

Here's downtown Helsinki for you:

If you need inspiration go to

or find the coordinates of a place you're looking for at

This is such a cool program. We (my husband and I) have had a professional version of it for ages - it's based on GIS and photogrammetry. Some parts of the world have more detail than others but it's all good. If you pay for the upgrade, you can turn on all sorts options on the maps.

Now I know where you are :D

Damnit, here I was thinking I could actually take a look at your house. :( Might come in handy, since I'm still trying to perfect my groupie skills.

You actually could, but the images near my house are not as good as they could so you really can't make out single houses. Funny though, I saw my old car at the parking lot of my old apartement.

That's because the images are not "real time". It's a global data base and it's only as good as the latest survey taken from the air. Most of the images are between a year and 5 years old. This stuff is getting updated constantly though - so checking back in a few months is a good idea.

Yeah, I know.

Google seems to use a mixture of aerial photos and satellite photos. The village I live in only has satellite photos on there so you can just hardly make out houses. I know aerial photos exist, but maybe Google didn't want to pay for them.
