Blablabla pop up crap

Aloha !

What's this all about? I get this message each time I open a new page. Am I supposed to feel guilty? A messageboard with pop ups is ****ing annoying. Anyone agrees?

Salaam Aleikum,

Keeper 09-05-2005 10:58 PM

I guess I do too. I know JT is funded through that but still.

Irishshin 09-05-2005 11:00 PM

I got that too, its bloody annoying.

Mr Bluesman 09-05-2005 11:06 PM

Yup, I've got the same. It's gonna be pretty damn annoying.

peter 09-05-2005 11:33 PM

Yes that's the whole point of it.
If you block popups here, you will get more of them.

I would be very happy if good ad networks would allow classic banners on forums, but they don't. The banners used here are mostly PSAs (public service announcements) - not paid at all.

Thierry 09-05-2005 11:41 PM

Its bullshit peter and you know it. It looks that you aren't interested in Jovitalk at all anymore. I'm happy that I'm using Firefox but for the other people this is very shitty.

Irishshin 09-05-2005 11:47 PM

Im sorry but theres no way in hell Im gonna stay posting here with that thing coming up every single time I click on a link. It sucks! And its so damn annoying.

Go post at my forum then :D

peter 09-05-2005 11:49 PM

Every pop-up blocker allows you to exclude certain sites.

Irishshin 09-05-2005 11:49 PM

I have Firefox but it pops up for me....Can you stop it or something?

alja 09-05-2005 11:50 PM

I'm not visiting this forum anymore because I don't have the time for it. But I still would rather pay a few bucks, instead of being bothered by those pop-ups.

But you don't give people a choice, so ofcourse they block pop-ups! And by creating such a stupid window-thing more en more people will leave your forum I think. Cause they'll still find pop-ups anoying and it's more likely that they'll leave instead of removing the pop-up killer.

Thomas Anderson 09-06-2005 12:07 AM

I agree, many of us have said time and time again that we would happily donate to help the site running if it meant no more popups, but if you don't give us the chance to do that we can do nothing but block the adverts, which no-one would ever click anyway other than to close them.

Kathleen 09-06-2005 12:08 AM

I use Firefox also and I am not having anything pop up. It all looks the same to me as it has recently.
I do understand the frustration though. I would much rather donate to the site than get attacked by pop ups if I visited frequently (which I do).

Kathleen

and you are not alone!! We've even had a poll on that.

Peter, that pop-up crap is ****ing ridiculous! Don't tell me you actually think it is a good idea!

It's stupid beyond words and all it will accomplish is for people stop posting. You don't seriously think people will revert back to reading stupid pop-up ads which should be illegal to begin with.

****ING BULLSHIT!

I think so too. People will come here and when they see how complicated it is to navigate the site they'll just leave.

Peter, my computer sometimes freezes when pop-ups appear so I'm using a pop-up blocker partly for that. I'd rather have those old ads that came in-between stuff than this cling the message does. I think I could cope better if it came up every other page - but every single link????

I thought we were so much better with this new software - everything was going so smoothly and now this :(

Captain_jovi 09-06-2005 12:10 AM

Out of curiosity, how much does it cost to run the boards? I'm just curious. Sorry if it's a personal question.

Kathleen

Same for me: no problems over here, but I do understand the frustration.

jess 09-06-2005 12:24 AM

I don't understand why some forums can leave without all this (pop up) but not JT.

JT should win an award because after all the problems during a long time trying to use this board with pop up, we (at last) have a better site, we are happy with it and now this window !!!
The best of the best !

I won't change anything, the other forums i use don't need that. Webmasters never did something like that.

Either people won't visit JT anymore or they'll download what they need to not see this window anymore.

Kev 09-06-2005 01:30 AM

Well the HUGE banner we have now is a million times better than that popup we were getting earlier. That was quite clearly the worst thing JT has ever had. Im extremely glad peter that you have removed that, because I definately would of left the board with it running. I am like Keeper, my pc is very detramental when it comes to popups and they like to freeze my computer. Thats why I now use Firefox WITH a popupblocker. I have to use this, or I could barely use JT. I dont like the huge banner, but I would be prepared to put up with it IF necessary.

Arash 09-06-2005 01:49 AM

I use the Norton Anti-virus, and the Yahoo! pop-up blocker, and i don't get anything at all.

Well thankfully it has been removed now, so you wont see it :)

jess 09-06-2005 10:01 AM

Thanks Peter, now let's put a sticky thread to make sure people don't forget to click on this banner.

well. thanx to those in charge :)

Irishshin 09-06-2005 11:10 AM

Thanks for removing it.
As others have said I wouldnt mind donating if it helped keep JT alive and ad-free.

Keeper 09-06-2005 07:11 PM

Thanks for that, Peter :D

I'll make a point of clicking on the ads a few times a day :)

I used to think they weren't so annoying until they started freezing my computer. And then *that* was annoying!

Edwin 09-09-2005 10:44 PM

What are those scripts that resize my window when I visit JT?

Edwin 09-24-2005 05:21 PM

Am I the only one with this problem?
