Great song, my favorite... but just dont understand the title`??

Love the darker lyrics on Novocaine myself, nice change from the "it's my life/bounce/everyday/hand" lyrics.

Novocaine is a local anesthetic. It is most commonly used by dentists, when they are pulling out teeth!

It numbs pain, hence the use as a metaphor in this song.

I know what novocaine is, but the line 'I change my name to novocaine' makes no sense at all.

What is it supposed to mean? That he turns into a pain number? How stupid. You might need some painnumber but to wanting to become one is borderline schizophrenic and early signs of a serial killer :D

It dose make sense, he wants to become the thing that feels no pain because the hurt he's going through in the divorce is too much to take.

I think that's supposed to mean he tells the others and himself that he feels no pain, but it's just a superficial thing, like a name.

Which is one of the reasons I don't like 'em.
