Lazy and greedy touring
I think that this tour is really the beginning of the end for Bon Jovi, Why?
There's two reasons and they are closely connected to each other. First we have to aknowledge the fact that the band doesn't bother to tour countrys where the money isn't so great. Therefore they have chosen to say goodbye to the old fan base and fail to generate new ones. If they ever choose to play scandinavia or eastern europe again they are likely to find that they can't sell out even arenas. At the same time some other bands are choosing something really different. Iron maiden toured europe three times in five years and played crowds from 5000 to 50 000. They also played ozzfest and managed to catch more attention in usa than they never before after powerslave. U2 does two or three rounds in usa on every tour and plays some quite small venues on secondary markets in addition to the obvious big cities. In europe they are doing mostly stadiums but even those gigs are reaching places that are economically unprofitable. Once again the reward is growth in record sales and in reneral following. Metallica plays ewerywhere everytime and in some places they have played bigger venues than ever before. some of them in scandinavia where jovi is really a hasbeen nowadays. We also have to remember that there's always a change to do venues of all sizes. Maiden is doing that on every tour and next summer Rolling stones is playing for 8000 people on norway and 12000 in finland. Arena gigs can be profitable even if the venue is quite small. in conclusion: With this short schedule that jovi is doing they are just a curiosity in the business and people are relly getting bored with those same songs that they play tour after tour.Just like someone else said here in other thread.. i don't care if i don't hear that boring bad medicine ever again. Especially when the new albums fail to offer anything new or even as good as the five first albums. |
I don't agree. All these guys have families. They don't want to leave home for months on end without seeing them. They (mostly Jon) have other outlets, such as producing, acting, writing, art. The band doesn't have to be their entire life. They've done that before, and it almost split them up. The reason they've made it this long without killing each other is that they're able to take time to do their own things, come back to the band, but not drive tours into the ground by playing 250 shows a year.

Well, but it's a Bon Jovi tour, isn't it? Not an Iron Maiden tour or a U2 tour. Each badn will know where to go or where they'd rather go.
All this stuff about the band not visiting this or that place or this world tour not being actually a tour around the world is getting so boring now. |

All shows in France were sold out (or very close to it) until the Crush tour. They never came back since. Ponrauil |

Although I don't condone the outrageous amount of money for tickets, touring is quite a pricey undertaking, and as someone pointed out yesterday, to fly all that equipment to certain places where they're just gonna end up either losing money or breaking even, it's not really worth it to them. |

I'm sure no one could imagine them during the 1993 and 1995 tours saying "no we don't want to play in a venue that doesn't give us (for example) one million dollar after selling it out. They did 29(!) European shows in 1995, 22 on their return in 1996 but if it continues to go like this, they'll end up being a band that does 5 shows in Europe, and then flies back home. That's just a sad thing and shows how money orientated they've become. Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |
Maybe they just don't wanna be that far away from home for so long. Jon's got 4 kids. Richie's got 1. Dave's got at least 2 or 3. Jon and Richie are both married.
Priorities change in life. I'm sure money plays a factor in things (as it does for anyone in any walk of life), but it's not the only factor. |
Amok, why do you complain when BJ's concerts are boring anyway and you don't mind to see these boring concerts again?
