I havent been here all week and I havent got the time to read 17 pages, however I have read half.
As a lot of you know I have brought this subject up many times in the past. In the beginning there was a profanity filter set up on this board to prevent people from swearing . This would then allow people from all over the world to access this site. Your choice to swear stops others from viewing this site , what right do you have to prevent others from viewing a site due to your selfish reasons of choosing to use a word. The f word apparently doesnt mean that much to a lot of you , you say its just a word. Well if its just a word then it wont take much to stop using it and think of others so they can access this board. So you are preventing others from having a freedom to view. As for whether swearing is offensive , you cant say the f word to a policeman, you would be arrested. The f word is not printed in any daily newspaper etc or used on any tv prior to 9pm. Why ? Because it is considered unsuitabley offensive. If its just a word , how many of you are teaching it to your children to say and spell . You know a child saying the f word is also not accepted and they will be punished in any school. Dawn |

As I said previously the worst insults and most harming words come in a polite kind of package. I don't think covering a child's ears (or using a beep) when some of these words are going to be used is going to make them a better person in the future. |

People were going to great lengths to overide the filter just to use a word. They dont seem to have to go to these lengths anymore . Whenever I mention this subject no one ever responds to my comments about their use of language preventing other peoples right from accessing this board ! I DIDNT say depending on the type of language a child uses would make them a better person or not. However as you have brought the subject up its an interesting point to address : if a person grows up to use foul language frequently as if it is a part of normal everyday language, I doubt very much they would get the job if they said at an interview, yeah I want the f ing job, what a great fing place to work ! This is just stupid. If you can't handle other peoples opinion, you shouldn't take part in a debate. |

i don't particularly like it cause when i'm at work i know i can't use the boards freely as people around me will look at me strangely if they see your avatar and signature. :p |

You're right about the job interview thing but it's the company's loss if they won't hire the most qualified person just because he used a swear word during the interview. And at any rate, I thought JT was a friendly community with friendly standards. We're not going by job interview standards here, we're going by a relaxed atmosphere such as you would feel if you were among friends. That's the point of the whole thing. |
