Why does Bon Jovi make videos anymore?
 

I was watching the top 20 on VH1 this morning, and HAND is down to #19. Never got higher than #15. Now, when It's My Life came out, at that time, there were still some videos being played in regular rotation. Also, they had been away for 5 years as a band, so it makes some sense to make a video.

But these days - It just seems like a silly waste of money. MTV never plays videos anymore. And with the exception of the top 20 on VH1 on the weekends, they don't play videos anymore either.

Jon himself has said many times that he hates making videos. They're very expensive, and one could make a good arguement, that in this day and age, the music video does absolutely nothing to push or promote the single or the album.

I'm not sure how it is in other countries, but in the US, does anyone think making a music video anymore is in the least bit necessary?

well maybe you didn`t recognize that the world is bigger than mtv america. THe vids are all plaid in europe. HAND was running here all the time

ok didn`t see that part, but it`s the same video everywhere and they get plaid outside the US so it does make sense

MTV is not the only channel around. There are loads of music TV stations around the world that play BJ-videos. A video clip is a commercial clip and they have to produce them to sell a recent No. of singles. Esp. nowadays videos are very important for the business. By the way, MTV Central Europe plays BJ.

The HAND video is never really played ova on the music channels in the Uk, i watch the music channels mtv2, vh1, vh2, Q, Kerrang, The Amp and all that stuff loads, but i only actually ever saw HAND on 3 occasions, 2 times were on the amp and the other kerrang...and that was like in the week b4 it was released...

thers lots of good reasons for many bands to make video's but i think that bon jovi havn't got many, they dont seem to work in ther favour, springsteen dont make vids much these days and he seems to be doing fine...

Altho sayin that Bon jovi vids do get played regular, just not any of the new songs much...Livin On A Prayer and Always are regulars and then occasionaly u see Its My Life and You Give Love A Bad Name...

MTV Europe(not central) doesnt play HAND too.But album and single is very succesfull in Europe without Mtv because there are lots of Music Televisions in Europe except Mtv and they play HAND very often and also HAND is still on Top20 in European Airplay chart but it hasnt appeared in US airplay(Pop100 airplay or Mainstream Top40)

Doesn't make sense for the US. We don't have video music stations anymore. The only station that does play videos is MTV Hits, and good luck seeing BJ on there.

You need naked girls dancing around if you want it to be played regular...

who needs mtv anyway even well in Germany all 4 music stations I know belong to MTV now and 2 play HAND so well thats enough, and MTV germany had to show it when it was on trl germany (http://www.mtv.de/trl/videos.php)
