Search for Bon Jovi’s Opening Band

One of central Iowa's most anticipated concerts is looking for an opening act. Bon Jovi wants a local band to perform before they hit the stage next month at Wells Fargo Arena. Bands interested must submit two original songs on a cd to radio station 102.5.

Here are the Official Contest Rules as of: 10/20/05 @ 9:30am

1. “STAR 102.5’s Search for Bon Jovi’s Opening Band” is a radio contest that will air 10/20/05 through 10/28/05, on STAR 102.5 (hereinafter referred to as “contest”) in which one local band will win the opportunity to perform a 30-minute set prior to Bon Jovi’s performance on 11/2/05 at the Wells Fargo Arena. This winner will then be entered into a National competition where one band will be selected to open for Bon Jovi at Giants Stadium in the Summer of 2006.

2. How to Win:

a. Beginning 10/20/05 and running through 10/26/05, STAR 102.5 will solicit local bands to drop off their materials to STAR 102.5 located at 1416 Locust, Des Moines – Monday through Friday from 9am til 5pm. STAR 102.5 will stop accepting entries at 5pm on 10/26/05.

b. To be eligible, bands must submit ALL of the following:

i. Biography

ii. Two original songs on CD

iii. Band point person with the name, address, phone #, cell # and email address

iv. References and performance history

Please Note: Failure to submit the items as requested (including correct quantity of songs) will result in immediate disqualification.

c. On 10/20/05, STAR 102.5 Programming and Promotions staff will begin judging entries. A total of five local bands will be selected to perform at the STAR studios 10/24/05 through 10/28/05.

d. Each of the five selected local bands must come to the STAR studios between 9am and 5pm on an agreed upon date between 10/20/05 and 10/28/05. They must perform live and/or be recorded for playback at a later time. Bands unable to meet this requirement will be deemed ineligible and an alternate band may be selected.

e. After the last band performs on 10/28/05, a panel of three local music experts will judge the five bands. Judges will choose the winning band and one alternate based on the performances aired on STAR 102.5. Judges will be selected by STAR 102.5.

f. Winning band, as determined by the judges, will play a 30-minute set on 11/2/05 just prior to Bon Jovi. In the event the winning band cannot perform, the alternate band will perform instead.

g. Once the winning or alternate band has completed their performance at Wells Fargo Arena, the STAR 102.5 contest is complete. Further competition associated with performing at Giants Stadium will be contained in written rules provided by AEG Live.


3. For the purposes of this contest, the term “local band” is a group made up of three or more members, one of which must reside in the State of Iowa and submit proof thereof. Solo acts will be not be accepted.


4. All entries submitted, and performances at the STAR studios, become the sole property of STAR 102.5 and Saga Communications of Iowa.


5. Employees of Saga Communications of Iowa, judges and their families, Iowa Events Center, AEG Live LLC, their advertising agencies, affiliates, employees of other radio stations, and members of their immediate families and other sponsors are not eligible to participate. The term family shall include spouses, parents, children, grandparents, grandchildren and co-habitating significant others.


6. STAR reserves the right to disqualify any entrant if these contest rules have been violated in any way.



7. By entering, all participants agree that their voice, name, photograph, caricature and likeness may be used by STAR for promotional purposes. All qualifiers agree to provide STAR their name, address, phone number and social security number. This will ONLY be used for processing necessary information as it pertains to prizes. Prize winners agree to waive any claim of royalty, right of further remuneration for any such promotional use and agree not to appear on, or on behalf of, any other radio or television station for a period of six (6) months after acceptance of prize without the written permission of STAR 102.5. Finalist agrees to have their performance on 11/2/05 audio and videotaped for promotional use.


8. All winners assume financial obligations for local, state and federal taxes and all applicable fees based on the value of the prize. In accordance with IRS regulations, any winner receiving a prize(s) valued at $600 or more in a given calendar year is furnished a copy of IRS Form 1099 (miscellaneous income).


9. No purchase necessary to participate or win. Void where prohibited by law.


10. STAR is not responsible for technical problems due to telephones, problems associated with telephones, mail delivery, email delivery, problems with the Internet or the ability for CD entries to play in a CD player.


11. In the event that the prize winner is subject to/of any order or legal process issued by any governmental agency having jurisdiction over the affairs of the winner (e.g., garnishment, child support order, judgement, lien, and the like) STAR’s delivery of the grand prize to the official representative of the governmental entity claiming a right to the prize shall be deemed to be the award of the prize to the winner. STAR shall be entitled to rely in good faith upon any documents presented by the representatives seeking to collect the prize in lieu of the winner. STAR shall not be liable for any claim by winner for damages incidental thereto.


12. In order to claim prizes, all winners must sign a release form. By claiming prize and signing release form, winner releases STAR, Saga Communications of Iowa, their officers and directors, stockholders and employees from any and all claims, liabilities, and damages arising directly or indirectly out of the award and use of the prize. STAR is not responsible for illness, death or injury, which may be sustained in conjunction with playing contest and in conjunction with any and all prizes awarded.


13. STAR 102.5, affiliates, participating sponsors, their agencies and the like, or any member there of, make no claims of merchantability of Grand Prize.


14. As a licensee of the FCC and a trustee of the public airwaves, STAR 102.5 reserves the right to interrupt and/or discontinue any contest or promotion (and not award the offered prize) at the discretion of STAR 102.5 management if world events, the national mood, or public safety so warrant. In such case, STAR 102.5 will do it’s best to select a local band should contest be terminated before a winner is selected.

15. Rules are subject to change without notice. Official contest rules are available at our 1416 Locust Street studios during regular business hours, on the STAR website at www.star1025.com and will air daily on STAR for the duration of the contest.
