Runaway Music Video
 

Hi.
Just a quick question.. from what i know "Runaway" is about the hookers on some road.. But on the music video theres all this crap about radiation exposures.. Was this just pure 80s-Style-Randomness, Or was it kinda of like a metaphorical thing about the story?

As with pretty much all of their videos with just a few exceptions..the Runaway video has nothing to do with the song. It's just crap that the director pulled out of his ass.

Runaway is about the young prostitutes hanging around Port Authority in Manhattan.

I don't think so. Remember, the 80s was very weird. I don't think it made sense, but i think that was in some way the "trend".

I saw an interview years ago about this. It was the directors idea, his daughter is in it and when they saw it for the 1st time, Jon said there was stunned silence in the room and he thought - Our career is over already. It had nothing to do with the song.

I read that somewhere aswell. That video seriously sucks!

I lived the 80s. Which is why I'm telling you it was something the director pulled out of his ass..and yes....I remember that interview too..from the 80s no less.

Just watch the video again...besides the overall theme....the band doesn't even look like themselves.

Runaway is about a runaway girl Jon met around 1980. she was 14 .running away from home...

Really? You do realize Runaway was written before there was even a band? Never mind the band hitting the road and then writing about it.

It was written about the girls Jon saw around Port Authority while he was working at Power Station studios.

That is what Jon told me. when he was on Johnny Carson show.

I heard it was about a 25 year old man running away from his job at a cheese factory in Wisconsin.

Peaches probably just got the timeline mixed up. The years between 82 - 88 were a crazy blur, what with her escapdes with the band, helping write number 1 singles and making out with Jon.

Ooooooooh cheese a little runaway...
