Tech connundrum...system corrupt...bah!
okay. So this is the situation:
There are three slots for RAM. I have 2 brand new 512 DDR 3200 sticks. When I place just one of them in and put it in the top slot, the computer loads and boots just fine, but when I try to put RAM in either of the other 2 slots in any way (slots 1,2 or 1,3 or just 2 or just 3), the computer gives me this system corrupt crap. What on earth is the matter?! Please, somebody give me a clue here... Both sticks are good, because when I place either of them in the top slot, the pc boots fine. I ran the latest symantec virus scan on the whole system and it says everything is clear. B EDIT : Also, when RAM in placed in the 2 or 3 slots, the monito often flashes signal missing and shows nothing. |
You're supposed to install RAM in order, so you place the sticks in slots 1 and 2. And have you told your BIOS that you have more memory?

Are you sure the Motherboard supports more than 512?
Go here: http://www.4allmemory.com/ Find Step 2 and follow directions to let it scan your computer and tell you what the deal is. |
it's an ASUS A7V8X-X and i should support 3 gigs from what I remember when I bought it, and it says the same on that website. Any other ideas?

"Yes, A7V8X-X can support DDR400 (PC3200) memory. Due to the chipset
limitation, it can only support 2 banks DDR400, and DDR400 memory only work with 200/266MHz FSB CPU." "3 DDR333 memory cause system unstable on A7V8X-X ------------------------------------------------ Problem: When I install 3 DDR333 (PC2700) DIMMs on A7V8X-X, the system becomes unstable. But if I remove one, the system works properly. Why? Answer: "Due to the chipset limitation, A7V8X-X supports 4 banks DDR333 max. It means you may have to use 3 single-bank DDR333 DIMMs or 2 single-bank with one dual-bank DDR333 DIMMs max. Please contact with the memory manufacturer to confirm with the memory bank Spec. In addition, please use DDR333 memory in the QVL section on ASUS web or A7V8X-X manual." this doesn't quite make sense to me...why can't I do this? Does it make sense to you ice? It says I have 4 banks for DDR 333, when in fact there are only 3. A bank is a slot, right?
Also, I have only installed 2 512 DDR 3200 sticks, not 3, so it should work, shouldn't it? thanks! B |
Shit, so does dual bank mean the chips are set in a pair of 4s? So, I have 1 RAM that is corrupt (which I am trying to replace), but single bank and two new sticks that are dual bank...
can I do two dual banks? thanks! B |
Shit, so can I do a double banked 3200 and a single banked 2700 together?
Also, could updating the BIOS help this at all, or is it immutable? B |
