Laser Eye Treatment
 

Anyone here had Laser Eye Surgery? Successfull or not? If successfull. how much did it change your life? Im thinking about having it done, but prices are very high of course. Iv actually seen one in Liverpool which charge roughly £600 per eye. My eyesight is rather bad to say the least, and I would really love to have it done, and was wondering if anyone had any 'success stories' to tell?! :)

If I didn't have a fear of anything near my eyes than I would have it done. The fact that I can get lenses in is amazing!

Anyway, I know 2 people who have had it done and they were both very positive and said they would do it again. Especially nowadays, it is a simple procedure and the next day you can see. I guess the only thing that freaks me out is that they slice off your cornea.. euch thinking about it even freaks me out!

If you are fine with that, then do it! Apparently you won't regret it..

Thanks Tash. One of my work mates had it done, and he said it was fantastic. Said it was the best investment he ever made. He had both his eyes done to enable him to join the police foruce back in 1993. Back then, it took a good while for the eyes to heal, but like you said, the healing process is pretty minimal now which is a added insentive. The only thing that would hold me back is the cost, but it would be a long term investment for sure!

My mam had it dosen about 5 or 6 years agao and her eyes were quite bad, now they're just about perfect!

The ony time you hear about disaster stories are when people do it on the cheap. If you're going to go messing around with your eyes, just please, spend the extra money and go to somebody properly qualified and an excellent reputation. It's not worth losing your eye-sight just to save a few hundred pounds.

I've been thinking about doing it myself for quite a while as well... But everytime I'm sort of cool with the fact that they will be cutting in my eyes, another story of someone with very bad experiences turns up. But it must be amazing to actually wake up and see everything around you, can't remember what that was like.

My thing with a eye laser surgery is, if it goes wrong, it goes wrong very badly... that's what still scares me. It's not like I put something at stake that I would be able to get a replacement for...

My boss had it done and had no problems. He came back to work the next day. He said he was scared like hell, but other than that, it went fine. No more glasses for him.

I think one would only consider it if their eyesight is truly bad. Not just a little bad like mine. My boss couldn't see shit without his glasses.

Like Kryzek said, you want to get a referral for a very very good doctor. Don't look at the price, but the reputation of the suregeon.

That's the fact!! I think I will do it, right now I can't, my sight is stil getting worse and worse because of the study....:(

I've heard so many people talk about how wonderful it is and how they can see the very next day. But just reading this thread makes my eyes hurt. I don't think I could have it done unless they knocked me out prior to going near my eyes.

I have also thought about it but there are things that don't quite convince me. I would love to wake up in the morning and actually see what's around me without having to grope about until I find my glasses. But I had a chat about this with my optician and he's always said that the technology is so new that there's hardly any people who have enjoyed it for a long, long time, so the post operaration in the long run is still quite uncertain. Also he told me that most people tend to need glasses for reading afterwards. Apparently they still don't know exactly why or how to solve it. And then again there's the fear that something might go wrong. They say it's an easy operation but you can never be 100% sure. Plus, it's still too expensive and perhaps in the future prices should go down.

My eyesight is pretty good at the moment so it isn't something I need to consider, but if I did have bad eyesight and could afford it I'd much rather have it done than have to wear glasses or contact lenses.

As to price I have seen ads on TV that claim it is as *little* as £300 per eye, and I know a while ago my auntie was talking about how my uncle wanted it done and it was £500 per eye where they were looking.

Haven't you tried glasses or contacts though Kev to see if you'd be ok with them?
