Is Bon Jovi turning in to an Orchestra or is it a band?
Sorry for puting a bit of a bitter feeling here but i kinda not impressed with the idea that Bon Jovi added 2 extra musicians for this tour. And who knows? What if the plan is that they stay? Realy!!! Then you tell me that the songs they make require more depth so there's the answer. And it is better to have extra musicians than using 'sampling' a lot. It's kinda fake.
But still there is something i don't quite like to this whole situation. I mean now they are an orchestra and not a band. And to tell you the truth, if you are a 5 member band then make songs that can be played live by 5 and not by more... And what's with Jons vibes of country and other styles of music? A friend of mine some while ago said to me 'wait and see, one day Jon is gonna singing country and pop songs'. I don't blame Jon at all,in fact i like him a lot but i don't always agree with everything.I respect the whole band cause they are trying so much. I am confused sometimes.Any thoughts are welcome. By the way HAND ALBUM is gonna stay in the spotlights for quite a while cause it is a very good album.Kicks ass baby!!! |
THe E-Street-Band or the Jukes are way more people than BJ plus extra musicians. Are they orchestras though? They are still bands.

I don't know much about it but wouldn't they have to have lots of different sections of various instruments and have a conducter and such to be an orchestra? :?
I understand what you mean, a lot of people here have wondered why they decided to include extra people, but why let it bother you? Personally I don't mind if they are still with the band when they play over here, just a couple more people on stage, it isn't like they have a hundred people up there, just 2 more. |

Why is this such a big issue , the band having two extra players on tour??? Alot of bands, the Stones for one have been taking extra players out on the road for a long time. I know this is the first time for BJ but to be honest jeff and Bobby fit in well, don't detract or distract from the show, in fact the backing vocals are much better this tour with them, I just don't see why it matters to everyone so much.

From all reports, the two extras don't seem to be having much of an input anyway. One review I've read from a fan said he made a point of watching Bobby 'play' at one point, and it looked liked he was barely doing anything.
It dosen't bother me that they are there but they do seem to be a bit pointless. |
I haven't seen any French horns or cellos, so I don't think they're turning into an orchestra.
And since when has Bon Jovi NOT had country influence? Remember that little song Wanted Dead or Alive? It got airplay on country radio in the late 80's. Jon has listed Hank Williams as one of his favorite songwriters of all time and lists a Patsy Cline CD in his Top CD reccommendations that everyone should own. Richie has talked about using three country artists on his next solo project: Kenny Chesney, Jo Dee Messina, and Joe Don Rooney. If people weren't so hung up on genre labels, they'd find that country and rock have a lot more in common than not. |

You may not see it and I can understand that you don't. It's not like you ever got to listen to country radio in the USA in the late 1980's! LOL It did get some airplay on country radio. Every Rose Has It's Thorn by Poison was another rock-crossover. It was sickening. I tried to avoid it on the pop stations only to find it on the country stations. LOL The latest example is Picture by Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow. It still gets frequent airplay on country radio. Here's a quote from Jon in an article from today: "The young guys in country now, I think, have more in common with Bon Jovi records of the late '80s and early '90s than they do with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and the originators of the art form." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...121500510.html |
Well just because a song is played on country radio that doesn't make it country music any more than playing a rap song on a classical station makes it classical, though I can't say I care much for classifications much. Perhaps it can help people who like a certain band to find another of similar style, but otherwise trying to fit a band into a certain genre is a waste of time.
