Computer question
Is it possible to buy a dvd rewriter and plug it into a laptop that just has a cd rewriter? (My bro was wondering!)
Cheers! Jonny. |
You should be able to buy a combination CD/DVD burner and replace what is there. It would depend on the type of laptop as to whether you could buy a generic drive or (in the case of many Compaq laptops) have to buy it from the manufacturer.
If the laptop has USB or Firewire ports you can always add an external burner also. I have done all of the above at one time or other so I know it's possible. Kathleen |
Yeah you can definately get an external DVD writer/re-writer and connect it to your USB port. It depends on how old his laptop is really. If he has USB 1 ports instead of USB 2 then the drive might not read/write as fast as it may do through a USB 2 port. If he knows what he's doing when it comes to hardware, then he could install an internal one. However I've never done this, and I'm not sure if they cost more or less than external drives.

Yes it's possible, that's exactly what i'm going to do soon. I don't know the price of external, but the internal i want to buy is 49€. |
Its 18 months old and has 4 USB 2.0 ports. Is that ok then? The memory is 512mb, 40GB.
Anyone know where to get decent external ones online (shops are always more expensive!!) Cheers |
Try here - I order stuff from them all the time. They are fast and cheap.
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ThirdC...egoryCode=0107 That link should take you to dvd drives in general - then search for external drives. Also check to make sure they ship to your country. Kathleen |
You could also try www.scan.co.uk. They are cheap, although I'm not all that sure if they ship to Ireland, you'll need to find out.
