This Tour IS interesting!

Hey peeps!

I checked a few setlists of this tour. And I was surprised to see that they finally play quite a few new and rare songs.
And they also finally have a decent support act for Holland: Nickleback!!

The last tour was booooorrring, but this one seems to be good!
So, I'm gonna buy a ticket after all, for the gig in Holland.

Maybe BJ heard in some way the criticism a lot of fans had/ have on them; (well, all of you know of course: their live-shows aren't so good anymore, and that the themes of their songs are always the same since a few years).

They better put up the best show ever in Nijmegen, in summer! :)
ROOOOOOOOOCCCCCCKKKKKK!!!

It's not that their live shows aren't good because they are. They are just professionals in the repetition department. They seem more adventureous and are willing to satisfy the crowd with suprises.

The band does sound better, Jon especially, then on the Bounce Tour, but I don't get why people think the setlists are any better.

The songs from HAND except from the title track do not work at all and turn the atmosphere down, the TLFR songs are crap, except for the curious BOG version, classic rockers are let down and everything older than 2000 is played safe and/or slow. Even the covers are a bit dull, or when they're not, they're played by the guys no one cares about.

I for one find the setlists very poor and safe.

I don't think the album is that bad as a side project never to be attempted again, but it doesn't work live.

this tour sounds little bit boring to me, i mean setlist...they could play and change more their old stuff. itīs very sad that fans say "yeaaaaaah, they played KTF or BOB" I think this both songs could be played almost every night and not to be rarities to fans...

I do agree that this tour is the best one I have seen since '95. It is millions times better than the Bounce tour. While it is true that the setlist hasn't changed drastically they have changed the order of the songs around (like not ending the main set with Bad RX/Shout, moving Sleep towards the beginning of the set, and even though many don't like the TLFR stuff (yeay I would prefer the originals too) they are doing things differnet, taking a chance and seem fresher. Of course a big part of this improvement in the tour is Jon quitting smoking... his voice is much better and stronger than on Bounce.. he is actually going for the high notes and seems to be pulling them off night after night on a consistent basis

The band seems to be very into being on tour and I think you can tell the difference the moment they come out on stage. Even though it is the same songs they seem to be really into the performance and not just going through the motions on this tour. And as far as surprises go, well they surprised me by doing Blood on Blood at my request. Who knows maybe if someone requests a major rarity they might do that one too. Another aspect of surprises at the concerts is for most people who don't read the boards they have no idea that Jon goes into the crowd and even sometimes starts off singing in the crowd~ it is a very big surprise to them when this happens... name the last concert where the singer has pulled that off... to me this is almost as cool as Jon flying out over the audience back in the days of SWW. It is all about trying to reach out to every fan.. and that is something I definitely admire with the band... they have impressed me very much with this tour.

I think this is the best tour I've seen since KTF. Jon and the band are really into the shows this tour, Jon has been in very good voice consistently this time out and they have been changing songs up, one here one there.

I personally enjoyed Bor and Always and I love this version of BOG. I'll give them credit for trying to put a "fresh" sound to some of these songs. I like them some may not, but you have to admit they are trying to change it up some make it sound different.
As for comments that the new songs don't work live, I have to say I just don't get that.

Arcade Fire, who opened for U2 in Montreal (2 weeks before the BJ show) did their last song of their set walking through the crowd. And not just the singer, the whole band. Without bodyguards.

Tryo, a French band that is big in the French speaking world, finishes all their shows in the crowd, again the whole band. Without bodyguards.

I could go on and I'm sure others could too.

As for the rest of your post, you're right, they did try different things this time out, and with the improvement from Jon, it is what saves the show and keeps visible disappointment away. But different doesn't make it good. For exampke, the TLFR versions I saw once and listened out of curiosity, but if I was to attend another show I think I'd actually throw in rotten fruits.
