I wouldn't know for definite but I doubt it was a Mesa during the early 90s as he favoured Marshall before moving on to Fender shortly afterwards. Unfortunately there is very little information available as to what gear Richie actually used/uses which proves extremely frustrating when it comes to reproducing his various sounds - any hints on Dry County solo effects would be welcome! So much gain and feedback and yet such sweet sounding high notes without ear-piercing treble - great sound!

Beginning is played with a Strat, the ending with a Les Paul.

Here you can find some about Richie's eq. It's in polish but you can see some photos ;)

for fear I'd make an educated guess at a les paul into a high gain marshall like a jcm800. alot of the low end from the guitar on that song comes fromt he cab he'd be playing through. nt many people running 4x12s in their bedrooms....

as for the dry county solo. I'd be prepared to bet he had some sort of boost for the solo to give that added gain and sustain but not totally overloading ont he treble. if it's not the boost he had on the old guitar then it's most probably come from a dirt pedal with the gain down and the level up. it's amazing how doing that can make harmonics jump off the fretboard with ease.

Thanks guys - I'll have a go at some of the suggestions and see if I can maybe get a little closer.

As for Marshall cabs, here's one I made earlier:

lol is that a photo shop or did u actually do that?

if u done it then well done ont he workmanship.

I had to use a cab some muppet had painted red a few years ago. everything including the girlle cloth and it just looked terrible.

that is so sweet im going to do that to my amps

RS8MB0R8 01-11-2006 09:10 PM

Thanks guys! It isn't a photoshop job Jim - that is what my amp now looks like! Pretty crazy but it certainly gets noticed! Hehe.

that's cool man.

i notice you've got some sort of fender there hooked up to another cab. you ever run an ABY box and have the marshall and fender going at the same time to get a driven and clean sound?

btw you ever checked out guitar guitar over your way? i'm not sure what yours is like but the one over here is REALLY nice for guitars and cool pedals you can't pick up anywhere else.
