Vocals; Richie/Jon?
Listening to the vocals between Jon and Richie in live concerts, i actually favour Richies voice.. what do you think?

Depends .... are we talking now, or just in general?

Well no matter what context, I can't really say who's is better out of Jon or Richie's. Their voices suit different types of music. OK, Richie has sung a number of Bon Jovi songs on solo tours and they sound good but I couldn't replace Jon with Richie in the band. And there's no way I could imagine Jon singing any of Richies solo material.
But if you're talking live, then these days I would say, while Jon's voice is sadly much weaker that say pre-1996, Richie's voice still holds up. |
I like Richie's voice better in pretty much any context, although I wouldn't necessarily want to replace Jon with him. Although that's more out of a sense of it would be too weird to hear a bunch of Bon Jovi songs without Jon singing than any real love for Jon's voice.
I actually like David better than both of them, although he's definitely not suited to most of the BJ songs. |
Richie's vocals definitely sound better, but right now Jon really sounds better than the past two or three years, maybe because he gave up smoking.

I love Jon's voice. I've never been a fan of Richie's voice. The first time I heard him singing a solo song (The Wind Cries Mary cover) I didn't know it was him and my initial reaction was, "What is this shit?" Then I realize it was Richie and felt very guilty, so I've tried to make myself like his voice, but I just don't. It has nothing to do with HIM. I like Richie just fine. I just don't like listening to him sing most of the time. There are a few songs where I think he sounds okay, but overall, I just don't like his voice/style/tone.

I've been a bit disappointed with Richie's vocals on the last album and the show I went to while Jon surprised me, being much better than I expected.
As I've sais already, I think Richie's got the better voice but Jon's the better singer. Ponrauil |

Richie on the other hand hasn't got a bad voice at all. It's powerful and can suit rock songs or ballads but there is just something missing for me. The way he pronounces some words just doesn't seem to sound quite right. It's wierd really as it seems when men get older some singers start to lose their high notes and others don't. People who have would include Roger Daltery, Robert Plant, Joe Elliot and of course Jon. People who haven't would include Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler and Eric Clapton. They seem to sing as well as, or even better than they did in their 20s as far as I have heard. |
